Awards season is all about glamour, speeches, and carefully choreographed moments. But sometimes? It’s about reptiles.
Rose Byrne is setting the record straight after her now-viral Golden Globes shoutout revealed that longtime partner Bobby Cannavale skipped the 2026 ceremony for a reptile expo in New Jersey. Yes, really.
During her acceptance speech for Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Motion Picture — Musical or Comedy for If I Had Legs I’d Kick You, Rose shared:
“I want to thank my husband, Bobby Cannavale, he couldn’t be here because we’re getting a bearded dragon and he went to a reptile expo in New Jersey. Thank you baby!”
The internet, naturally, lost it.
Headlines framed it as peak chaotic couple energy. Social media declared it relationship goals. And suddenly, Bobby Cannavale choosing reptiles over red carpets became the most charming subplot of the night.
Now, Rose is clarifying the situation — with humor intact.
In a new interview with The New York Times, she admitted:
“Never in my life will I announce something like that on a major awards show again,”
She continued:
“Everyone was thinking it’s for Bobby. It’s not! It’s for our children. The children.”
And honestly? That context makes it even better.
Rose and Bobby have been together since 2012, building one of Hollywood’s most low-key, solid partnerships. They welcomed their first son, Rocco, in 2016, followed by son Rafael in 2017. So yes, the bearded dragon was less about Bobby’s personal hobby and more about fulfilling a parental promise.
Still, the image of a seasoned actor navigating a reptile expo while his partner accepts a Golden Globe will live rent-free in our minds forever.
