Love really is the sweetest song—just ask Sara Bareilles.
The Grammy-winning “Love Song” singer and her longtime partner, actor Joe Tippett, are officially married! The happy couple confirmed the news on October 7, and their announcement was nothing short of heartwarming.
“We did a big thing. I will just say I love this man and I love the community who came to hold us up. I am feeling so lucky and so grateful. ❤️,” Sara wrote on Instagram, alongside a carousel of photos capturing their beautiful outdoor ceremony—including a romantic shot of the newlyweds sharing a kiss.
Two weeks earlier, Joe had cheekily hinted that the wedding was just around the corner by posting a photo of Sara at the City Clerk Marriage License department, captioned, “Getting some property assessed.”
Sara, 45, and Joe, 43, have one of Broadway’s sweetest love stories. They first met in 2015 during the out-of-town tryout for Waitress at the American Repertory Theater in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Sara wrote the music for the hit show, while Joe played Earl in the pre-Broadway run that summer.
By the end of the production, sparks were flying, and the two began dating. They made their red carpet debut at the 2018 Tony Awards and got engaged in 2023—nearly eight years after their first meeting.
Throughout their relationship, Sara and Joe have been refreshingly open about love, art, and the power of partnership. And after years of writing songs about love, heartbreak, and finding herself, it’s no wonder Sara’s fans are celebrating this happy ending with her. As one commenter wrote under her post, “You’ve written the soundtrack to our love stories—now it’s your turn.”
Congratulations to the newlyweds!
