Sophie Turner has a wild story about her time at Comic-Con — one that may have unintentionally altered the course of a Hollywood romance.
The 29-year-old actress appeared on Late Night with Seth Meyers on Thursday (August 14), where she recounted her first Comic-Con experience more than a decade ago.
“That night was actually quite crazy for me, it went really south really quick,” Sophie began. “I really can’t name names, or I’ll get in a lot of trouble.”
She explained that she was with her childhood best friend, who spotted a celebrity crush at the event. The friend asked Sophie to wave hello, which seemed harmless enough. “That was it,” Sophie said.
But the simple wave didn’t go over well. “Later on, I see this girl looking at me, and she’s a famous actress. And I was like, ‘I have to go and tell her how much she means to me.’ So I dance on over and she goes, ‘Can you stop f–king flirting with my fiance?’”
Shocked, Sophie asked the actress, “Who’s your fiance?” The woman pointed to the same man she had waved at earlier.
“I have no idea who this man is,” Sophie admitted. “Turns out, I think they broke their engagement off that night because of my [wave]. I didn’t realize I held this power.”
Naturally, the internet went into overdrive trying to guess which couple she was talking about. Many fans believe the mystery duo was Emma Roberts and Evan Peters, who were indeed spotted together at Comic-Con parties in 2014. One Reddit user wrote, “The streets are saying it’s Emma Roberts and Evan Peters, which tracks.”
Emma and Evan’s relationship was famously turbulent. They began dating in 2012, got engaged in 2013, but faced multiple breakups and reconciliations over the years. By 2015, reports confirmed they had called off their engagement, though they reunited briefly before finally parting ways in 2019.
Adding another twist: Sophie and Evan later worked together on the X-Men films, appearing in X-Men: Apocalypse (2016) and Dark Phoenix (2019).
While Sophie stopped short of confirming the couple’s identities, her story has all the hallmarks of a viral Hollywood tale — accidental drama, star-crossed lovers, and a teenage Sophie Turner unknowingly at the center of it all.
As she joked to Seth Meyers, it’s a lesson in the unexpected ripple effects of a single wave.
