Vanessa Hudgens is saying goodbye to a companion who was with her through nearly every chapter of her adult life.

The 37-year-old actress shared the heartbreaking news on Instagram that her beloved dog Darla has passed away.

Darla entered Vanessa’s life in a deeply personal way. She was rescued by Vanessa’s ex-boyfriend Austin Butler’s mother. After Austin’s mom passed away in 2014, the former couple adopted Darla. Over the years, Vanessa often shared how meaningful that connection was.

Darla became more than a pet. She became constant.

“Anyone that knows me knew Darla. She went everywhere with me. Traveled the world. Was there for me every single step of the way,” Vanessa wrote.

From red carpets to quiet days at home, Darla was present.

“She was the smartest little lady I’ve ever known. I couldn’t have asked for a better dog. I am beyond heart broken today. Putting her down was one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to do, but her little body was failing her and it was her time. I already miss the pitter patter of her little paws in the house. If you have your own fur baby squeeze them extra for me. Rest in peace my sweet girl.”

It was an honest, raw goodbye. Anyone who has loved a pet understands the specific ache that follows.

Darla wasn’t just part of Vanessa’s public persona. She was part of her private life — a grounding presence through career highs, heartbreaks, and new beginnings.

Vanessa has often spoken about her love for animals and the joy pets bring into everyday life. Her tribute wasn’t performative. It was personal.

Losing a pet means losing a routine, a sound in the house, a constant shadow by your side. Vanessa captured that loss simply and directly.

And in sharing it, she reminded fans of something universal: love, even when it’s four-legged, leaves a permanent mark.
