9-1-1 star Oliver Stark isn’t holding back when it comes to addressing critics of his character’s latest storyline on the hit ABC drama.

In a candid Instagram post shared on Saturday (April 6), Oliver addressed the backlash surrounding his character Buck’s kiss with Tommy, portrayed by Lou Ferrigno Jr., in the recent episode, offering a straightforward message to detractors.

“If you are one of the smaller group of people commenting on my posts about how this has ruined the show, I would like you to know that I truly don’t care,” Oliver wrote, setting the tone for his unapologetic response.

Emphasizing the show’s commitment to love and inclusion, Oliver highlighted the diverse relationships that have been central to 9-1-1 since its inception, including the portrayal of a Black lesbian marriage, which he praised as a testament to the show’s commitment to representation.

“It’s featured queer relationships from the very beginning including a beautiful Black lesbian marriage played out by two of the best actresses I’ve ever watched,” Oliver noted, underscoring the importance of inclusivity in storytelling.

Addressing critics who may view Buck’s exploration of his bisexuality as a deal-breaker, Oliver expressed concern that they may have missed the broader message of the show. He challenged detractors to reconsider their perspective, reminding them that their departure from the series is not a requirement.

“If one other character finding a new facet to his sexuality and [realizing] his bisexuality is your deal breaker — I fear you’ve missed the entire point of the show,” Oliver asserted, urging viewers to embrace the show’s commitment to authentic storytelling and representation.

By confronting criticism head-on and reaffirming the show’s values, Oliver’s statement serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of diversity and acceptance in television, encouraging viewers to embrace characters and storylines that reflect the rich tapestry of human experience.
