Payton Moormeier is about to tell a new story – and this one comes with a hummable riff, a skittering bounce and a hypnotic hook.

Fresh from his debut single “Love Letters,” the singer, songwriter, guitarist, and viral creator is bringing fans another catchy tune to bop to – his sophomore release, “Habits”.

The new track drops Sunday (August 23) – and Payton once again lays his heart bare, with lyrics like “I can’t seem to fall asleep, cuz thoughts of you and me always seem to haunt my dreams, it was better you and me.”

“It came together in my room as a demo,” he shares about writing the song. “It stems from being addicted to a girl. It’s all true.”

Payton has been racking up the views on social media with his impressive covers for years – his 2018 cover of Halsey’s “Without Me” on TikTok went uber viral. But he’s already making an even bigger mark in music – racking up the views AND the streams with his original songs!

In May, he dropped his debut single “Love Letters,” which quickly racked up over 1.5 million Spotify streams and over 2 million views on YouTube.

“I had a little relationship with this girl, and it didn’t go very well,” he admits. “Things ended, and a lot of the lyrics came from that. I put the story in the song. I was super invested in her. When the whole thing cut off abruptly, I had no closure. Luckily, I was starting to explore making music. I gave myself closure by expressing the feelings she left me with in ‘Love Letter’.”

Interestingly, Payton says “Love Letters” and “Habits” are about the same girl – however, the stories are told from different perspective.

Talking to Hollywood Life, Payton explains, “‘Habits’ hits a lot different than ‘Love Letter’ to me, both were influenced by a girl but tell 2 different stories. It’s a personal song to me showing light on some s–t I’m always too scared to talk about.”

It’s Payton’s knack for sharing his own personal experiences in his songs that enabled him to connect with millions fans all over.

“I show my vulnerable side through the songs,” he explains. “Music helped me get confidence and express myself. I’m finally revealing who I am.”

In the end, Payton genuinely tells his story through his music for the first time.

“When you listen to my songs, I hope they’re an inspiration to chase your dreams,” he leaves off. “So many people have watched me grow online and stuck with me. They saw me go from zero to ‘make-it-happen’. I want to encourage them to do the same.”
