Princess Beatrice is a mom!

Buckingham Palace announced the happy news in a statement on Monday (September 20), which reads: “Her Royal Highness Princess Beatrice and Mr Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi are delighted to announce the safe arrival of their daughter on Saturday 18th September 2021, at 23.42, at the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, London.”

Their baby girl, who is Queen Elizabeth’s 12th great-grandchild, weighed in at 6 lbs 2 ounces at the time of birth.

“The new baby’s grandparents and great-grandparents have all been informed and are delighted with the news. The family would like to thank all the staff at the hospital for their wonderful care,” the statement continued, adding, “Her Royal Highness and her child are both doing well, and the couple are looking forward to introducing their daughter to her big brother Christopher Woolf.”

Their daughter is Princess Beatrice’s first child with husband Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi. The 33-year-old royal is also stepmom to Edo’s son, Wolfie, whom he shares with ex Dara Huang.

The couple, who married in July 2020, are yet to announced the name of their child. No, they didn’t forget. Apparently holding back on revealing royal baby names is something of a Royal Family tradition that goes back generations – Prince William and Kate Middleton waited several days after welcoming each of their children before sharing Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis’ names; Prince William’s name wasn’t revealed until a full week after he was born; and the public didn’t know Prince Charles’ name for a whole month!

So, what does this mean for the Royal order of succession? While it’s not yet set in stone, Baby Mozzi is now 11th in the line to the throne – behind Prince Charles (1st); Prince William (2nd) and his kids Prince George (3rd), Princess Charlotte (4th), Prince Louis (5th); Prince Harry (6th) and his two children Archie (7th) and Lilibet (8th); her grandfather Prince Andrew (9th); and her mom Princess Beatrice (10th). This can all still change though, should there be any additions in the families in line above them.

Case in point, Princess Beatrice’s younger sister, Princess Eugenie, who was previously 11th, is now 12th in the line of succession following her birth, and Princess Eugenie’s son August is now in the 13th spot.

Among the Queen’s great-grandchildren, only Prince William’s kids have been bestowed with the titles Prince and Princess in the British Royal Family. However, it appears Baby Mozzi may come into a royal title of her own, too – her paternal side are descended from Italian aristocracy.

Her grandfather is Count Alessandro Mapelli Mozzi and dad Edoardo is the Count’s eldest son. Princess Beatrice became “Contessa” and “Nobile Donna” or noble woman when she and Edo tied the knot, and Baby Mozzi will also be a “Nobile Donna.”

As Count Alessandro once explained it to The Daily Mail, “Edoardo is the only male descendent taking the family into the next generation. He is a count — his wife will be a countess automatically and any of their children will be counts or nobile donna.”

Well, that certainly is quite the family tree!

Congrats to the new parents!
