It looks like Rachel Zegler may be attending the Oscars after all.
THR is reporting that the 20-year-old actress has been extended an invitation to present at the 94th Academy Awards. Being a presenter guarantees her a ticket to the ceremony.
The invitation comes at the heels of Rachel’s revelation that she would not be at the Oscars because she was not invited.
She dropped the bombshell on Instagram last Saturday (March 19) when a fan wrote:
“Can’t wait to see what you’ll be wearing on Oscar night.”
To this, the West Side Story star directly responded with:
“I’m not invited, so sweatpants and my boyfriend’s flannel.”
Her fans were surprised at this, particularly because the Steven Spielberg-directed film in which she plays the lead role of Maria is up for several awards, including Best Picture. They expressed outrage at Rachel not being given a ticket to the show.
Rachel seemed to be just as confused, writing:
“Idk y’all i have tried it all but it doesn’t seem to be happening :’) i will root for west side story from my couch and be proud of the work we so tirelessly did 3 years ago.”
She went on to say that despite not being able to attend, she would be rooting for the movie — and is still hoping for a last minute invite:
“I hope some last minute miracle occurs and I can celebrate our film in person but hey, that’s how it goes sometimes, i guess.
Thanks for all the shock and outrage — I’m disappointed, too. But that’s okay. So proud of our movie.”
The next day, following more rallying cries for her to get an invite to the show, Rachel wrote this on Twitter:
“My goodness, folks!! appreciate all the support, i really really do. we live in such unprecedented times, and a lot of work behind the scenes goes into making movie magic happen. that goes for film productions (like the one I am so lucky to be currently shooting in London)…
…And awards shows alike. let’s all just respect the process and i’ll get off my phone x R.”
Rachel has actually been in London filming the live action Snow White film, in which she plays the titular Disney princess. It’s being reported that efforts are being made to try to fix production schedule so she can attend the Oscars on Sunday.
