Rachel Zegler will apparently not be in attendance at the Oscars next weekend. The reason> She did not get an invite.

The 20-year-old West Side Story actress revealed to her fans that she will not be present at the 94th Academy Awards – even though the film is up for Best Picture.

Rachel made the bombshell reveal while taking to Instagram to share a photo slideshow to recap her last few months. The slide show featured snaps of Rachel working, enjoying her downtime, and gracing many awards shows in dazzling outfits.

Along with the photos, she wrote:

“A quarter of the year well spent.”

In the comments section, a fan wrote:

“Can’t wait to see what you’ll be wearing on Oscar night.”

To this, Rachel replied:

“I’m not invited, so sweatpants and my boyfriends flannel.”

Her fans were surprised and even outraged by what she wrote and questioned why she was not invited, particularly because she is the lead actress in the Steven Spielberg film which is up for many awards in this year’s ceremony.

Rachel seems to be just as confused, and revealed that she tried to obtain a ticket to the March 27th event:

“Idk y’all I have tried it all but it doesn’t seem to be happening :’) I will root for west side story from my couch and be proud of the work we so tirelessly did 3 years ago.”

The actress, who takes on the role of Maria in the remake of the 1961 classic, went on to share how proud she is of the film, and that she still hopes to be able to attend the show:

“I hope some last minute miracle occurs and I can celebrate our film in person but hey, that’s how it goes sometimes, I guess.

Thanks for all the shock and outrage — I’m disappointed, too. But that’s okay. So proud of our movie <3”

The following day, following more clamor for Rachel to receive an Oscar invite, she took to Twitter to request fans to “respect the process,” writing:

“My goodness, folks!! appreciate all the support, i really really do. we live in such unprecedented times, and a lot of work behind the scenes goes into making movie magic happen. that goes for film productions (like the one I am so lucky to be currently shooting in London)…

…And awards shows alike. let’s all just respect the process and i’ll get off my phone x R.”
