Emerging pop singer-songwriter SAGE – the moniker of Sage Siegel – has released the first single off her debut EP, “Homesick Feelin’,” available now on all streaming platforms. The track will be featured in Popstar Magazine! alongside it’s release.

Growing up in Toronto, SAGE has been singing since before she could speak. Losing her father unexpectedly at the age of 3 and growing up with a younger brother with non-verbal autism, singing became a way for her to connect with her feelings and emote to music early on.

At the age of 13, SAGE auditioned for Mini Pop Kids, Canada’s #1 music brand for kids. Making it past thousands of other children to be a “Mini POP Kid,” she was chosen to sing, perform, and record in-studio for their Canada record label, K-tel.

Over the years, SAGE began sharing covers on YouTube and TikTok, in addition to writing original music. In 2021, she had a viral moment with her cover of “Riptide” by Vance Joy, amassing nearly half a million views and 160,000 likes. Since then, she has garnered a following of 47,000.

Since beginning to write for her debut project this year, SAGE has collaborated with Paris Carney (Maggie Lindemann, Bea Miller), Drew Polovick (Friday Pilots Club, OSTON), Nigel Hemmye (Mothica, Caroline Kole), Theo and the Climb (REI AMI, WRENN), Sleeping Lion (Kira Kosarin), and Austin Wolfe (JORDY). She has received support from Popstar! Magazine, with a four-page artist feature in their April 2021 Digital Magazine.

Reflecting on her inspiration for the song, SAGE shares, “Like most of us during the pandemic, I was stuck at home, missing the busy life I had prior to the world shutting down. I created the concept of this song because although being homesick is usually when you’re missing home, it could also be interpreted as feeling sick of being stuck at home. It was hard seeing some of the world going out, living their normal lives, while I was doing my best to stay inside and remain safe.”

She continues, “I hope people can relate to this song since a lot of us were stuck at home this last year. We all went through a life-changing event, but at least we can see the light at the end of the tunnel.”

Q&A With SAGE:

POPSTAR!: What was it like working with your producer Sleeping Lion?
Sage: “Working with Sleeping Lion was a blast! Our creative sides meshed well together and they knew how to bring my acoustic track to life very quickly.”

POPSTAR!: What was the process like?
Sage: “The song came together pretty quickly once we started working on it. I had written most of the lyrics before going into the production session with Sleeping Lion. They really understood my vision and helped bring out the best of the song, making sure the production was everything I wanted and more!”

POPSTAR!: What’s the inspiration behind the track?
Sage: “When I started playing around with the melody and lyrics for the song, I was feeling inspired by “Wonderwall” by Oasis. I wanted my song to have that same edgy side while also keeping an indie emphasis. I came up with the chorus first, and really wanted it to reflect what I had been going through for the last year during the pandemic. When I first talked to my parents about the song’s concept, they didn’t understand my angle, but after listening to a rough version it was safe to say it became my mom’s favorite song of mine!”

POPSTAR!: Let’s break down one of your lyrics from the song!
Sage:“I feel like there is so much I’ve been missin’, all my friends agree I’ve grown a little distant”  – everyone says in your senior year you find your true friends who will be around for a lifetime, but it felt like that was being stripped away from me by having to do school from home and finishing high school remotely. This line is really important to me because despite the circumstances, the pandemic made me realize who my real friends are and which relationships I should focus my energy on.”
