Ruby Rose hung up her mantle as Batwoman’s Kate Kane/Batwoman following the end of season one. The show has since cast actress Javicia Leslie as the new lead, taking up the cape and cowl as Ryan Wilder.

Batwoman’s season two opened with the mystery of Kate’s disappearance – the episode was titled “What Happened To Kate Kane?” But — *spoiler alert* — apparently, Kate isn’t totally gone just yet.

Sunday’s (March 21) episode saw the return of Kate Kane – albeit quite unrecognizable underneath all the bandage. By this point in the show’s story though, Ryan’s (Javicia) journey as Batwoman is well underway. And Kate is no longer Batwoman.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Wallis Day has been cast to take over the role – the 26-year-old actress herself confirmed the news on Instagram.

“Super excited to finally announce I’m joining the cast of Batwoman. I’m sure you can imagine how much this means to me and how incredible it’s been working on the show so far. It’s a huge responsibility stepping into the shoes of a character that’s already been established and it’s a journey I’m looking forward to being a part of and hoping you guys do too,” Wallis said. “Everyone’s made me feel so welcome and it’s amazing being back home with my DC family 🦇♥️”

Although Ruby has previously expressed that she would be down to reprise her character, she’s totally “stoked” about the casting choice.

Ruby went on Instagram Story to send her congratulations to Wallis, writing, “I’m sorry I didn’t congratulate @wallisday yesterday.. I knew about the casting beforehand and didn’t know when it aired so i forgot to,” she shared. “But I’m stoked for her! I’m seeing all the things I’m tagged in with people sad or wondering how I felt .. I feel great I have nothing but good vibes.”

Earlier this month, Ruby told ComicBookMovie.com, “I mean, I’m obviously moving on to other roles as I think I’ve done about three films since. I would totally do it. I don’t think it would serve the story because I think building the new Batwoman is more important than going back too far into Kate Kane, but of course I would, I would absolutely do anything they wanted as far as that.”

She also added: “I haven’t watched the whole thing, but I’ve watched a couple of episodes, and I think how they’re handling it is beautiful. I think it’s her [Javicia’s] time to shine.”
