Ryan Gosling is opening up on how fatherhood has changed him and how he views life.

The 41-year-old actor gave a rare glimpse into his life with his longtime love Eva Mendes and their two daughters Amada, 5, and Esmeralda, 7, in a new interview with GQ UK.

The notoriously private star spoke about how being a father has made him more aware of the passage of time, saying:

“Time, in general, is something I think about a lot now. My kids are growing up so fast I need to keep an eye on the clock in a way I never used to.”

He shared that the COVID-19 pandemic may have played a role in exacerbating that feeling. He stated:

“I feel like I need more time to process it. But we have two kids, so we spend a lot of our time trying to keep them entertained.”

Ryan adorably then went on to share that he and Eva have been doing “more acting in quarantine than in our films” as a way to keep their girls entertained at home, quipping:

“Tougher crowd, though.”

He insightfully added of his daughters:

“[They’re] at a difficult age not to be able to see other kids and interact with people, even though Eva and I did out best.”

Though their kids have yet to watch Ryan’s films, he says that they love one of Eva’s movies, a 1999 film about a boy who becomes a pig:

“My Brother The Pig was a big hit. I highly recommend it, by the way. Eva’s amazing in it.”

Ryan and Eva are very intentionally private about their private life, and this is something Eva opened up about before. In April 2020, she wrote on Instagram:

“I have always had a clear boundary when it comes to my man and my kids. I’ll talk about them of course, with limits, but I won’t post pictures of our daily life.

And since my children are still so little and don’t understand what posting their image really means, I don’t have their consent. And I won’t post their image until they’re old enough to give me consent.

As far as Ryan and I, it just works for us this way, to stay private.”
