Selena Gomez is giving an insight into how spending less time on social platforms has impacted her life.

Back in 2019, Selena revealed that she no longer has social media apps on her phone.

“I’m not on the Internet,” Selena revealed in a 2019 interview with Elle. “I haven’t been on the Internet in months. I don’t have my password for Instagram. I have no apps on my phone, no photo editing apps.”

The 29-year-old singer has been candid with fans about her mental health struggles and has been open about importance of putting her mental health first – something she’s learned over the years. And in a recent interview with WWD, Selena shared that spending less time online has become a practice she’s kept up.

“I’m completely unaware of, actually, what’s going on in pop culture, and that makes me really happy,” she tells outlet. “And maybe that doesn’t make everybody else happy, but for me, it’s really saved my life.”

“I say that because that’s a huge, significant part of why I feel like I’ve been as healthy as I have been,” Selena notes.

She also opened up about the pressures of growing up in the spotlight.

“There was this immense amount of pressure I had growing up that I felt like I needed to be a good role model,” she shared. “And then I felt like maybe that was just unrealistic, and my life became very public really quickly, and I didn’t know that I was going through my own journey with mental health at the time.”

Reflecting on the time she used to spend online, she shares, “I felt like my thoughts and everything I was consuming revolved around a million different other people in the world saying good things and bad things.”

She came to a point where “I just snapped, and I was over it.” At first, she wanted to quit social media altogether, but later realized that changing her relationship with social platforms worked better.

“I wanted to delete it altogether, but my team was smart enough to convince me not to,” she continues. “But I’m happy I didn’t, because it is such a wonderful way to stay connected, and when I do go on, it makes me happy to know that I’m just being completely honest and being true to who I am.”
