Many of us know him as the actor behind one of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s iconic villains, Loki. But lately, there’s been talk that Tom Hiddleston might be taking on yet another iconic character – and it starts with a double 0.

Speculations of who will be the next James Bond have been buzzing around – current Bond actor Daniel Craig will be hanging up his 007 title after the upcoming No Time To Die. A lot of names have been pitched – including Rege-Jean Page, Idris Elba and Tom Hiddleston.

So, will Tom be the next Bond?

In a recent interview with Empire magazine, Tom opened up about the prospect of playing the smooth spy – but he’s also very aware of how his answers could be turned into a clue of sorts.

“What can I say that you don’t already know?” he mused. “It’s interesting in itself that I’ve suddenly become very aware of what I’m saying, is it not? Because there’s something about what I’m saying that becomes the story. Not for you, but for the world outside. Whatever I say, I’ve found, generated more questions.”

Hmmm…sounds pretty much like a non-answer. But this actually isn’t the first time he’s had to address those Bond rumors – his name has been floated to fill in the iconic spy’s tailored tux for years. Here’s what he had to say back then:

“I think any British actor that gets a phone call that says, ‘Would you like to play James Bond?’ There’s no more enticing question than that,” Tom told Entertainment Tonight back in 2015. “Who on God’s green earth knows who’s gonna play the next James Bond? [But] I’d love to be in a Bond film at some point.”

Tom’s been pretty busy as of late – he’s currently filming The Essex Serpent in England. His MCU series Loki, is also set to drop on Disney+ on June 11. He’s also hit the stages on Broadway and London’s West End in plays. But he’s also turned down some roles that came his way – and, in the same interview, opened up about why.

“A few things crossed my path and I thought carefully about them, but they didn’t feel quite right, so I didn’t do them,” Tom shared with the magazine.

“Playing so many different people in so many different parts of the world, and it’s very important to distinguish what’s real in one’s own life, and look after those things,” he added. “Because if you don’t look after them, they can be lost, or they can be marginalized, and then you come home one day and they’re not there anymore.”
