Fashion’s biggest night is happening on Monday (September 13), right on the heels of New York Fashion Week, with part one of the Met Gala. Co-chaired by Billie Eilish, Timothée Chalamet, Naomi Osaka and Amanda Gorman, this year’s theme is “In America: A Lexicon of Fashion.”

Many of our favorite stars have brought their stunning looks to the iconic Met steps over the years – including Zendaya, whose iconic Cinderella light-up moment at the 2019 Met Gala made headlines.

Sadly, fans who are looking forward to what look she’ll be serving up this year will be disappointed: Z has confirmed she won’t be at the Met Gala.

“I will unfortunately not be able to attend because I’ll be working on Euphoria. I got my time off to come here and do this Venice experience, which has been really, really special,” Zendaya said during an Extra interview with Dune co-star Timothee Chalamet. “I wish I could, especially since this fashion icon [Timothee] is going to be hosting.”

“I will be on Euphoria. I know that this the first time that people are going to hear that I’m not going. My fans are going to be very upset with me,” she said.

Selena Gomez, on the other hand, recently reflected on attending the Met Gala in 2018 – and revealed what really happened with her infamous self-tanner mishap.

“For the Met Gala, I was getting ready and we wanted to add some color. So [I] put on some of this tanning lotion and it looked really beautiful and very even,” she explained in a Vogue Beauty Secrets video. “As the evening kept going on it was getting a little darker and darker.”

And it wasn’t until much later that she’d realized that her tan had gone horribly wrong.

“I’m at the Met Gala — basically one of the most prestige, beautiful events and I’m walking trying to look all beautiful,” she said. “I look at a photo of myself when I sit down and I am completely orange. I was like, ‘This is going to be terrible because I’m going to get eaten alive about this.'”

She did have a good sense of humor about it though and even poked fun of herself at the time, going on Instagram to share a video of herself running out of the event, captioned, “Me when I saw my pictures from MET 🤷🏽‍♀️.”

“So I had my security take a video of me, because my first reaction was just to get the hell out of there,” she shared in her Vogue clip. “And so I’m running to my car. I’m literally just hauling a– to my car and then gonna put it online. I was saying this is my reaction after seeing my Met Gala photos.”

Selena, who’s been in NYC over the past few days to promote her new series, Only Murders In The Building, was spotted at the JFK Airport on Thursday (September 9) for a flight out of NYC. It’s unclear whether she’ll be back for the Met Gala.

For those wanting a front-row seat to fashion’s biggest night, the Met Gala is giving fans “unprecedented access” to the notoriously exclusive event, with with Keke Palmer and Ilana Glazer as hosting the livestream on Monday (September 13).
