Andrew Garfield is one of Hollywood’s brightest stars, a talented actor with a solid body of work and many incredible projects and performances under his belt. He bowled over critics and audiences alike in his latest film, Tick Tick…Boom. And he’s of course well-known for his turn as beloved web-slinging superhero Spider-Man in the Amazing Spider-Man movies — a role he just reprised in a very buzz-worthy appearance in last month’s Spider-Man: No Way Home.

But did you know that there was actually one particular role that he very desperately wanted but got turned down for?

In a recent interview with Variety, Andrew revealed that his heart was so set on being part of Disney’s Chronicles Of Narnia films. He wanted so badly to play Prince Caspian, a role which eventually went to Ben Barnes.

Andrew shared:

“I remember I was so desperate. I auditioned for Prince Caspian in ‘The Chronicles Of Narnia’ and I thought, ‘This could be it, this could be it.’

And that handsome, brilliant actor Ben Barnes ended up getting the role. I think it was down to me and him, and I remember I was obsessed.”

He went on to say that he kept on pressing his agent, asking why he did not get the role. His agent, he recounted, finally broke after his relentless questioning of her, ’Why not me”:

“She eventually just broke under my incessant nagging and she was like, ‘It’s because they don’t think you’re handsome enough, Andrew.”

Andrew good-naturedly concluded his story by stating:

“Ben Barnes is a very handsome, talented man. So in retrospect, I’m not unhappy with the decision and I think he did a beautiful job.”
