David Schwimmer and Jennifer Aniston played one of TV’s most iconic couples as Rachel and Ross on Friends. Fans couldn’t quite get over their intense onscreen chemistry and often wondered if there was a little somethin’ somethin’ going on behind the scenes.

In May, during their time on Friends: The Reunion, the pair revealed that they ALMOST became the real-life Ross and Rachel.

“The first season, we– I had a major crush on Jen,” David admits in one part of the special.

Jen responded to that confession with: “It was reciprocated.”

However, things never progressed beyond their mutual admiration.

“At some point, we were both crushing hard on each other,” David shared. “But it was like two ships passing, because one of us was always in a relationship. And we never crossed that boundary. We respected that.”

And the reason why audiences could feel all the tension on the screen?

“We just channeled all of our adoration and love for each other into Ross and Rachel,” Jen explained.

Jen has also been very clear that she and David never crossed the line of friendship while working together.

When the topic came up again during an interview with Howard Stern after the reunion, Jen said, “We were in relationships, it was always never the right time and it wouldn’t have worked.”

“The beauty of that was that whatever feelings we had we just literally channelled everything into Ross and Rachel and I think that’s maybe why it resonated the way it did. But no, we never – on my life, and Courteney and Lisa would know and can vouch for me,” she continued.

“No. I would proudly say I banged Schwimmer if that happened,” she added. “But no.”

It took more than a decade since the series ended before the Friends cast reunited – this time, with Jen and David both currently single.

A recent report suggests that their recent opportunity to reconnect with each other may have opened up new possibilities for the pair.

“After the reunion, it became clear that reminiscing over the past had stirred up feelings for both of them and that chemistry they’d always had to bury was still there,” a source told Closer. “They began texting immediately after filming and, just last month, David flew from his home in New York to see Jen in LA.”

The source also claims that “they’ve been spending time at Jen’s home,” and have been spotted around a vineyard in Santa Barbara, “where it was clear there was lots of chemistry between them.”

The story quickly went viral, with fans trying to get to the bottom of it.

At the time, neither Jen nor David have commented on the report. However, gossip account @DeuxMoi told fans on Instagram and Twitter, “sorry, but this is not true,” and “I forgot to add that I have it on VERY good authority that this is not true.”

On Wednesday (August 11) morning, David’s rep told The Huffington Post U.K. that the reports are simply not true. And, per the outlet, a spokesperson for Jen also denied the rumors.
