Earlier this week, multiple reports came out that Colin Jost and wife Scarlett Johansson welcomed their first child together. ScarJo’s rep, Marcel Pariseau, confirmed the happy news with People on Wednesday (August 18). However, at the time, no other details were revealed.
Now the new dad himself is opening up about their newest addition to the family with a very brief statement on Instagram.
“Ok ok we had a baby. His name is Cosmo. We love him very much,” he posted on Thursday (August 19), adding, “Privacy would be greatly appreciated.”
The last line, however, has some fans wondering whether the announcement really is an actual announcement or meant to troll fans – with the help of his “Weekend Update” co-anchor, Michael Che.
“For all inquiries please contact our publicist @chethinks,” Colin concluded, referencing Michael’s IG account.
The couples’ fans and famous friends showered them with congratulations in the comments.
Artist Victo Ngai wrote, “❤️❤️❤️❤️congratsss❤️❤️❤️❤️we had a baby boy recently too, play date? 🙌”
“congrats 😭😭😭😭😭,” the MTV IG account commented.
“You ARE the father! Congratulations,” the Maury Show’s IG account chimed in.
“Congrats you four!!! ❤️😍,” Katie Couric shared.
Some speculated about the inspiration behind the baby’s name.
Cosmopolitan’s official IG account joked, “You could have just asked. We would have been your baby.”
While one fan explained the origin of the name Cosmo, writing, “Our boys name is also Cosmo 💙 not sure why people think it could be a joke. Cosmo is the English translation of Cosimo, first recorded when a Scottish royal adopted the name from his friend Cosimo de Medici (the Jeff Bezos of that time). Great name guys !”
For his part, Michael seems to be taking his new role to heart – in true Michael Che fashion. He recently updated his IG bio to read “cosmo’s publicist” and shared Instagram Stories of the DMs he’s received on the matter.
Reacting to an article with the headline: “Scarlett Johansson, Colin Jost welcome first child; Michael Che scolds fans who cares,” he wrote on his IG Story, “lol ‘scolds’,,? Or like, ‘made fun of’..?”
And when someone asked if Baby Cosmo’s photos will be released anytime soon, he shared a colorful doodle of a baby holding a rattle, writing, “Yes. This one.”
He also mused, “Maybe I should type everything in comic sans so that it’s always implied I’m joking.’
Colin and Scarlett exchanged “I dos” in a small, intimate wedding in October of last year. ScarJo, who is also mom to six-year-old daughter Rose whom she shares with ex Romain Duriac, began sparking pregnancy speculations in June, after fans noted that she was noticeably absent from in-person events leading up to the release of her standalone MCU film Black Widow and that her virtual interviews were all shot from her shoulders up.
Per a Deadline article, the mom-of-two was “in the hospital in labor” as news of her lawsuit against Disney over Black Widow’s release and the company’s response made headlines.
The cryptic hashtags Colin included in his post seemingly addressed all the fuss surrounding their baby news. “#wegotawaywithitforalongtime #nokidspolicy #we’regoingtodisneyworld.”
