Did Ben Platt Cut His Interview Short When Asked About ‘Nepo Baby’ debate?

Ben Platt has found himself in some very hot water right about now because of what happened during an interview.

He was recently interviewed by Rolling Stone, and it seems that his conversation with the publication was cut short when the topic of nepo babies came up.

The interview was largely focused on his upcoming film Theater Camp. However, at one point the conversation shifted to his family and the whole discourse on nepotism in the industry.

Ben, who is the son of Legally Blonde and The Little Mermaid producer Marc Platt, was asked how having a connection in the industry may have impacted his decisions as he was growing up. He replied:

“Because my parents gave us the opportunity to pursue whatever we wanted to pursue and didn’t necessarily put us in gender-specific boxes or force anyone to do sports that wasn’t feeling sports, I think I had the opportunity that a lot of people don’t have, which is that I was allowed to get bitten by a theater bug.

They let me try what I wanted to try.”

He went on to say:

“I think I owe a lot to that upbringing, and obviously musical theater brought me to my potential husband. So I certainly owe a lot to the openness and the artistic kind of freedom that was in my household.”

The follow-up question was about the New York Magazine feature about celebrities who had family connections in Hollywood. This was quickly shut down by Ben, who stated:

“We’re going to skip right over that if we can.”

Rolling Stone noted in the article that Ben’s publicist then made a request to keep the conversation focused on Theater Camp. The interview proceeded, but Rolling Stone also noted that the publicist cut in after just a few more questions to end the conversation, which led to a shorter-than-expected interview.

Ben has yet to make a statement about this.
