Jennifer Aniston and David Schwimmer have gone down pop culture history as one of TV’s iconic couples with their portrayal of Friends’ Rachel Green and Ross Geller. Fans couldn’t quite get over their intense onscreen chemistry and often wondered if there was a little somethin’ somethin’ going on behind the scenes.

And when they admitted that they had crushes on each other during the show’s early days during the Friends reunion special, fans went wild.

“The first season, we– I had a major crush on Jen,” David admitted in one part of the special, to which Jen responded with: “It was reciprocated.”

However, things never progressed beyond their mutual admiration.

“At some point, we were both crushing hard on each other,” David shared. “But it was like two ships passing, because one of us was always in a relationship. And we never crossed that boundary. We respected that.”

Despite it being over a decade since the show ended, Friends fans are once again shipping them – especially since Jen and David are both currently single. And last month, everyone was in a frenzy when rumors that Jennifer and David were dating hit the grapevine.

At the time, their respective reps denied the dating rumors – but the stars themselves were yet to speak out on the matter.

Well, Jen is finally speaking out about it.

“That was bizarre. I could not believe that, actually. Like, really? That’s my brother,” she told Entertainment Tonight during a joint interview with her Morning Show co-star, Reese Witherspoon. “But I understand it, though. It just shows you how hopeful people are for fantasies, for dreams to come true.”

Jen has been in high-profile relationships in the past – she was previously married to Brad Pitt from 2000-2005; she and Justin Theroux dated for seven years and were married for two before splitting in 2018. Now, she’s hoping to date someone outside the spotlight.

“Absolutely. I mean, it’s happened,” she told People when asked if she believes a relationship between a celebrity and a non-celebrity could work. “That’s what I’m sort of hoping for is not necessarily somebody in the industry itself. That’d be nice.”

The 52-year-old actress is currently busy doing promos for the second season of The Morning Show, and continues to be cautious about her health amid the ongoing pandemic. The Friends reunion special is up for awards in four categories at this Sunday’s (September 18) Primetime Emmys, however, she confirmed that she won’t be attending the awards ceremonies.

“No, I will not be going,” she told the host during an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! Monday (September 13) night.

Noting that just appearing in person on the late night talk show “is a big step for me,” she explains that producer and director Ben Winston will attend and accept on her behalf, if the Friends reunion wins.

She’s shares that she’s mostly just been staying home, safely filming the second season of The Morning Show and only sees a few friends like Courteney Cox and Jason Bateman.

“We had this little bubble of friends — thank God, I love all of you so much — but yeah, it was hard. Weird times,” she said.
