Awards season officially hit its stride tonight as Hollywood’s brightest stars gathered for the 2026 Golden Globe Awards, an evening that celebrated cinematic ambition, television excellence, and a year defined by bold storytelling across genres. With buzzy new titles, prestige auteurs, and fan-favorite performances competing side by side, this year’s ceremony reflected an industry both evolving and expanding its creative reach.

On the film front, Paul Thomas Anderson’s One Battle After Another emerged as the most dominant contender of the night, leading all movie nominees with nine nominations, including Best Motion Picture — Musical or Comedy. Anderson’s latest project cemented its place as a critical heavyweight, blending genre thrills with auteur sensibility in a way that resonated with both critics and audiences.

Close behind was Joachim Trier’s Sentimental Value with eight nominations, followed by Ryan Coogler’s Sinners with seven and Chloé Zhao’s Hamnet earning six. These three films faced off in the fiercely competitive Best Motion Picture — Drama category alongside Frankenstein, It Was Just an Accident, and The Secret Agent, making the drama field one of the most stacked lineups in recent Globes history.

Performance categories were equally electric. In Best Actor — Drama, nominees included Michael B. Jordan (Sinners), Oscar Isaac (Frankenstein), and Jeremy Allen White (Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere), while Best Actress — Drama featured powerhouse names like Julia Roberts (After the Hunt), Jennifer Lawrence (Die My Love), and Jessie Buckley (Hamnet). Comedy and musical categories brought star power of a different flavor, with Timothée Chalamet, Leonardo DiCaprio, Emma Stone, and Kate Hudson all earning nominations.

Behind the camera, the Best Director category underscored a year driven by visionary filmmaking. Anderson, Coogler, Zhao, Trier, Guillermo Del Toro, and Jafar Panahi each brought distinct voices and global perspectives to the race, reaffirming the Golden Globes’ commitment to honoring creative risk and storytelling depth.

Television proved just as competitive. The White Lotus led all TV nominees with six nods, including Best Television Series — Drama, while Only Murders in the Building dominated the comedy field with four nominations. Following its Emmy success earlier in the year, Adolescence continued its awards momentum, earning five nominations in the limited series categories.

This year also marked the debut of a new honor: Podcast of the Year, reflecting the growing influence of audio storytelling. The inaugural nominees included Armchair Expert With Dax Shepard, Call Her Daddy, Good Hang With Amy Poehler, The Mel Robbins Podcast, SmartLess, and Up First From NPR — a lineup that blends celebrity-driven conversation with impactful journalism.

Returning for a second year as host, Nikki Glaser brought her sharp wit back to the Golden Globes stage, guiding the night with humor and bite.

From cinematic spectacle to intimate performances and cultural conversation, the 2026 Golden Globes delivered a snapshot of an entertainment landscape rich with creativity, ambition, and evolution — setting the tone for an awards season that’s only just getting started.
