Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s wedding brought together one of the most star-studded guest lists in recent memory—but two familiar faces were notably absent.
As the newlyweds celebrated with family, friends and a long list of A-list guests at Madison Square Garden on July 3, Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds spent the holiday weekend several hours away in upstate New York with their children.
The actress and Deadpool star did not attend either the wedding ceremony or the rehearsal dinner the night before, prompting renewed discussion about the status of Lively’s longtime friendship with Swift.
According to photos published by TMZ, Lively and Reynolds were in Lake Placid, New York, where their six-year-old daughter Betty was participating in a horse show.
The couple, who are known for keeping much of their family life private, were photographed supporting their daughter during the event. In addition to Betty, they share daughters James, 11, and Inez, 9, along with their youngest child, Olin, 3.
Their family outing came as celebrities from across music, film, television and sports gathered in Manhattan to celebrate Swift and Kelce’s wedding.
Lively’s absence immediately caught fans’ attention given her close friendship with Swift over the past decade.
The pair have frequently celebrated birthdays together, attended major events side by side and publicly supported one another’s careers. Swift has also woven Lively and Reynolds’ family into her music over the years, famously using the names of their children in her songwriting.
In July 2024, Swift revealed that she had become godmother to Lively’s children, further highlighting the closeness of their relationship.
Over the past year, however, reports have suggested that the friendship has cooled.
According to People, tensions reportedly developed during Lively’s legal dispute with her It Ends With Us co-star Justin Baldoni.
As the legal battle became increasingly public, Swift’s name unexpectedly entered the conversation.
Last year, attorneys representing Baldoni served Swift with a subpoena connected to the case, placing the Grammy winner in the middle of a legal dispute that had nothing to do with her own work.
Soon afterward, multiple reports suggested the situation had affected the longtime friendship.
A source told People in May 2025 that Lively and Swift were “taking some space” from one another.
Several months later, another source told the publication, “Taylor and Blake aren’t speaking.”
The situation became even more complicated in early 2026 when private text messages between the two women were unsealed as part of the ongoing legal proceedings.
According to a source who spoke with People at the time, the public release of those conversations left Swift eager to distance herself from the controversy.
The source explained that Swift “was just being a friend to Blake, and it’s turned into something bigger than she ever expected. She never thought private messages would become public.”
Neither Swift nor Lively has publicly addressed the current state of their friendship.
Likewise, neither side has commented on Lively and Reynolds’ absence from the wedding festivities.
While their decision to spend the weekend with family instead of attending the celebration has fueled speculation online, it’s important to note that neither actress has suggested the absence was connected to their reported friendship status.
Meanwhile, Swift and Kelce’s wedding welcomed hundreds of guests, including fellow musicians, actors, athletes, comedians and longtime friends.
