Grammy winners Victoria Monét and Bruno Mars have joined forces for a romantic new collaboration, titled “That’s Why I Love You.”
The track serves as a highlight on Monét’s sophomore studio album, Frequency of Love, which arrived on streaming platforms on Friday, October 2. The duet marks a creative reunion for the two artists after Monét supported Mars as a featured opening act across the European and UK legs of his The Romantic Tour earlier this year.
Lyrically, “That’s Why I Love You” unfolds as a classic, mid-tempo R&B ballad centered on long-term commitment and unconditional partnership.
Monét opens the record with a vulnerable first verse, detailing the emotional relief of letting down her defenses after finding a partner worthy of trust. The soaring chorus looks far into the future, picturing a enduring love that outlasts the glittering lights of fame and the passage of time.
Mars takes the lead on the second verse, employing cinematic metaphors to compare their romance to a feature film while positioning his partner as the leading lady.
The two powerhouses blend their harmonies seamlessly on the chorus, delivering a message about finding a lasting bond that remains steady long after the crowd disperses: “‘Til we’re silver and old, you’d never let me dance alone / And baby, that’s why I love you,” they sing together.
Adding a touch of vintage flair, the track opens with a vintage sample of Italian singer-songwriter Bruno Lauzi’s 1963 classic “Ritornerai” (“You’ll Come Back”). Translated from Italian, the sampled line reads: “You’ll come back / I know, you’ll come back / And when you do, you’ll be with me / And you’ll discover that nothing has changed / That I’m still the same hopeless dreamer as always.” The old-school sample sets an elegant, retro tone before Monét’s vocals kick in.
Produced by hitmakers Camper and D’Mile, “That’s Why I Love You” stands out as Track 14 on Monét’s expansive 22-song tracklist for Frequency of Love. The album features a star-studded lineup of guest contributors, including SZA, Leon Thomas, Bryson Tiller, Lucky Daye, Chlöe, and an appearance by Monét’s young daughter, Hazel Monét.
