Singer-songwriter Olivia O’Brien is pulling no punches when it comes to her past involvement with former Saturday Night Live star Pete Davidson.
The 26-year-old “i hate u, i love u” hitmaker took to Instagram comment sections this week to call out her comedian ex following widespread online backlash surrounding Davidson’s recent public commentary criticizing female influencers. Leaving little to the imagination regarding how their 2020 romance concluded, O’Brien claimed she discovered their relationship was over through tabloid news coverage after Davidson went public with another high-profile star.
“I was dating him in 2020 and found out we were no longer together by seeing on snapchat daily mail that he went public with a more famous woman lmaooo. he is an absolute joke of a human being,” O’Brien wrote in a comment.
Responding directly to another social media user who questioned the timeline of their relationship, O’Brien double-downed on the frequency of their daily communications at the time.
“not sure how he has the time considering we were texting 24 hours a day and falling asleep on facetime when we weren’t together. busy boy! lmfao,” she added.
The public callout marks a sharp shift in tone for O’Brien, who had previously maintained a far more diplomatic stance regarding the 32-year-old actor. During a 2022 guest appearance on the BFFs With Dave Portnoy, Josh Richards, and Brianna Chickenfry podcast, O’Brien described Davidson as a “nice guy,” adding, “he’s funny, and he’s sweet, he’s a really sweet guy.”
The podcast discussion arose after popular celebrity gossip outlet Deuxmoi published an anonymous tip alleging that Davidson had quietly ended things with a “B-list pop star/influencer” right before embarking on a publicized romance with Bridgerton star Phoebe Dynevor.
Addressing the leaked rumor on air in 2022, O’Brien expressed surprise that the story had surfaced: “I cannot believe you guys found that, that’s really crazy, you’re the first people to ever ask me about that and I really thought that no one knew about that. Breaking news. Oh, god. Two years later.”
At the time, representatives for Davidson issued a swift statement claiming there was “no truth” to O’Brien’s account. Following media pickup, O’Brien posted a clarifying Instagram Story claiming outlets were taking her casual podcast banter “waaay out of context.”
“I never claimed to date anyone. Stop trying to start weird drama over me texting someone 2 years ago. Jesus Christ,” O’Brien stated back in 2022.
The revived friction follows Davidson’s candid September profile with Variety, where the actor reflected warmly on his high-profile past relationships with exes Kim Kardashian and Ariana Grande while reflecting on his mental health and career evolution.
