Ed Sheeran is entering his next chapter feeling stronger — physically, mentally, and creatively. The 34-year-old singer-songwriter recently revealed a 30-pound weight loss while gracing the cover of Men’s Health UK, offering fans a candid look at the motivation behind his transformation.
The photos, which include several shirtless shots highlighting his tattooed torso, quickly caught attention. But for Sheeran, the journey wasn’t about aesthetics — it was about longevity, fatherhood, and resilience.
Sheeran shares two daughters, Lyra, 5, and Jupiter, 3, with his wife Cherry Seaborn. Becoming a father reshaped his priorities, a realization that crystallized during a moment he recalls vividly.
Reflecting on when Lyra was just two weeks old, Ed remembered having wine with a friend and waking up feeling awful.
“I went to bed, then Lyra woke up 20 minutes after I’d fallen asleep. I woke up, and I was like, ‘F–k, I probably shouldn’t drink if I’m going to feel this dreadful.’ I want to be able to do the night stuff. It all came in at the same time of wanting to be a responsible dad, wanting to feel and look good,” he said.
That mindset extended beyond parenting and into his career.
“I didn’t want to pick my kid up and have my back f–ked and stuff like that. And then also that feeds into professional life,” he continued. “You’re less resilient in your thirties. I was losing my voice more. I would pull muscles in my leg, I pulled a muscle in my back when I was playing live… I wanted to feel superhuman on stage.”
Over the past five years, Sheeran adopted a balanced fitness routine that includes reformer Pilates, running, and weight training. Rather than extremes, he emphasizes flexibility and moderation.
“I still drink. I love red wine, I love a nice meal, but it’s not every day,” Ed explained. “Same as food, same as drinking, you have to have variety. There are some days that I run, some days that I swim, there’s some days that I will do weights. Then there are some days I will do reformer.”
In September, Sheeran told SiriusXM that he has set his sights even higher — with a goal of getting a six-pack. But as his Men’s Health interview makes clear, the real transformation isn’t about numbers or muscle definition. It’s about sustainability.
Sheeran’s openness offers a refreshing counterpoint to fitness culture, focusing less on perfection and more on feeling capable — as a father, a performer, and a human being.
And for an artist whose career has always been rooted in honesty, the message lands exactly where it should.
