Country breakout sensation Ella Langley is speaking out after being forced to cancel a scheduled arena concert at the BOK Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma, just hours before showtime due to a serious safety concern.
The 27-year-old “Choosin’ Texas” singer pulled the plug on the October 9 performance after venue management and local authorities alerted her team to a potential threat. Capt. Richard Meulenberg of the Tulsa Police Department subsequently addressed reporters outside the venue, confirming that an exhaustive investigation cleared the facility after finding no credible active danger.
Returning to the stage the following evening (October 10) in Lubbock, Texas, Langley paused her set to address the emotional toll of the cancellation and explain her decision-making process to the audience.
“When it comes to keeping you safe and making sure that this show is a safe place for us to come and enjoy our music, then it will happen — but the second it feels like it will not, I’m not doing it,” Langley told the crowd in fan-recorded footage shared to social media. “I’m not doing it, because a concert’s not worth a human life. It’s not.”
Langley emphasized that safety will always supersede professional commitments: “I would have made yesterday’s decision 10 billion times over — and I’d do it tomorrow and I’d do it the next day because, while I’m grateful to get to do what I do, it’s not the most important thing in this life. What’s the most important thing in this life is the people around that love you and are there for you no matter what. The most important thing in this life is making sure you wake up every day and feel like, ‘You know what? I’m good today and I’m so grateful to have woken up today.’”
The chart-topping artist admitted that while she briefly considered taking additional time off, her faith and sense of purpose encouraged her to keep going.
“I know that because this is my calling. This is the thing that I was called to do, and I’m gonna continue doing it — and nobody is gonna talk me out of it [or] scare me out of it. No, you will not!” she declared to cheering fans.
Langley closed her speech by thanking the audience for their support during a stressful weekend. “It was scary for all of us, but we’re just so grateful to be playing this show tonight … and we will never take this for granted. We love it, we love what we do [and] I wouldn’t trade it for the world. This is my favorite thing to do in my life.”
