Hilary Duff is giving credit where credit is due.
During a recent appearance on Kylie Kelce’s Not Gonna Lie podcast, the 38-year-old singer and actress opened up about revisiting some of her most iconic early music — and revealed that Taylor Swift played a major role in inspiring the decision.
Specifically, Hilary spoke about re-recording beloved fan-favorite tracks like “Come Clean,” the instantly recognizable anthem that became synonymous with an entire generation of early 2000s pop culture.
And according to Hilary, watching Taylor reclaim ownership of her catalog through her massively successful re-recorded albums completely shifted her perspective.
“Well, I got to be honest with you. The whole Taylor of it all really set the bar for being like, ‘No, here’s how we’re going to do this. Here’s how this is going to go,’” she said, referring to Taylor’s re-recorded albums.
Hilary also revealed that she chose to brand her updated recordings in her own way.
“I actually called my versions ‘Mine.’”
While Taylor’s influence clearly helped spark the idea, Hilary explained there was another deeply personal reason she wanted to revisit the music.
“I think the other reason was, I recorded those songs when I was like 14 years old. I had not a clue what I was doing. I had no technique…the Internet loves to remind me of this.”
Now, more than two decades after first becoming a pop phenomenon, Hilary says she feels completely different artistically.
“I am such a different person now. If I’m going to sing these songs, I want it to feel and sound like me.”
She continued, “I still very much sound like young…it was so funny too, to go back and like really try to get some of those sounds. I felt so bad. Brian, my producer, was like, ‘I’ve really been trying to figure this one out.’ Like the times were so different that the interesting use of percussion…it was just very not what it is today.”
The conversation immediately resonated with longtime fans who grew up alongside Hilary during the peak of her Disney Channel and pop music dominance.
For many millennials, songs like “Come Clean,” “So Yesterday,” and “Wake Up” weren’t just radio hits — they were core memory soundtracks.
Hilary’s decision to revisit those songs now feels particularly timely as nostalgia-driven pop culture continues dominating music, fashion, and entertainment.
Her newly updated version, “Come Clean (Mine),” has already been released as part of special editions of her latest album luck… or something.
The re-recorded track appears on the (wine o’clock edition) vinyl available through HilaryDuff.com, as well as the Walmart-exclusive version of the album.
Additionally, the song was featured on Hilary Duff – (Mine), a Record Store Day exclusive silver vinyl released last month.
Beyond revisiting old music, Hilary is also entering a major new live-performance era.
Later this year, she’ll head out on The Lucky Me Tour — her first arena world tour in 20 years.
