Bleachers frontman and mega-producer Jack Antonoff is speaking his mind regarding the recent tour controversy involving Ed Sheeran and Macklemore, offering an unvarnished critique of how artist speech is managed within the live music industry.

Speaking with The Telegraph, Antonoff weighed in on Sheeran’s decision to allow tour promoters to drop Macklemore from his stadium dates following the rapper’s on-stage pro-Palestinian comments. Antonoff, who frequently addresses global issues during his own performances, explained why he feels compelled to speak out:

“Free Palestine… I’ve felt way more emboldened to say it now, because it’s not in any way a strange, uncomfortable or controversial thing to say, it’s a deeply human thing to say. If you think it is [controversial] you’re lost in some other sauce that is so crazy. They’re going to let some ******* promoter tell me what I can say? Don’t book me. I’ll play for free outside.”

Antonoff then directed his focus toward Sheeran’s handling of the promoter-driven decision, suggesting the British superstar missed an opportunity to leverage his massive industry influence:

“[Ed Sheeran] missed a massive, beautiful opportunity there: just cancel the whole ******* tour, then play for free outside each venue, raise a bunch of money, rather than let a ******* billionaire tell you what to do. The reason it’s not an anomaly or niche issue is because we all live in a world where billionaires are constantly telling us what to do,” Antonoff expressed, adding a direct challenge: “So stand the **** up.”

Antonoff’s comments hit at the heart of an ongoing debate within the entertainment industry concerning artist autonomy, live performance contracts, and the influence of corporate venue operators in shaping political discourse on stage.
