Kate Middleton is looking forward to meeting her new niece.
The Duchess of Cambridge and U.S. First Lady Jill Biden visited a school in Cornwall Friday (June 11), where they talked about the shared goal of helping parents improve the lives of young people, with a focus on the importance of children’s early years in development.
During a press conference, Kate was also asked if she had any wishes for her new niece, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s daughter Lilibet Diana Mountbatten-Windsor, whom they welcomed on June 4.
“I wish her the very best. I can’t wait to meet her. We haven’t met her yet. I hope that will be soon,” she said.
And when Kate was asked if they’ve Facetimed with her niece, she responded, “No, I haven’t.”
The last time Prince Harry was in London was back in April for his grandfather Prince Philip’s funeral. The somber occasion also saw Prince Harry reunite with his family for the first time since moving to the U.S. – particularly, his brother, Prince William. And many have noted that their meeting looked pretty tense.
According to Royal experts, the brothers’ relationship has been strained for some time – and Kate has been considered the “bridge” between the two. Prince Harry even reportedly texted Kate instead of his brother when Baby Lili was born.
Per The Mail on Sunday, a Palace source said that Harry texting Kate about the birth sort of became a way of “cementing her role as a bridge between him and his brother.”
Back in April, Meghan was still pregnant with Lili and couldn’t travel with her husband. So far, none of the members of the Royal Family have had the chance to meet Baby Lili in person – however, the Queen has reportedly met Baby Lili via video chat.
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge also congratulated the Sussexes on Lili’s arrival on Instagram, writing, “We are all delighted by the happy news of the arrival of baby Lili. Congratulations to Harry, Meghan and Archie” ” alongside a black and white photo of Harry and Meghan and their two-year-old son, Archie.
Many expect Prince Harry to return to the U.K. in July for the unveiling of Princess Diana’s statue on what would have been her 60th birthday, but so far, he hasn’t publicly confirmed his plans to travel. And no word yet if his family will be travelling with him.
