In his upcoming memoir You Thought You Knew, Kevin Federline makes a startling claim: he says Britney Spears kissed a female dancer behind his back during a European tour. The revelation, published in excerpts by USA Today, has reignited debate around their storied relationship.
Federline, now 47, writes that the incident occurred when he and Spears—then married—went out with some of her dancers, including a woman who had introduced the couple. After a night out, the group returned to their hotel, where Federline says he found an intense scene unfolding.
“She was sitting on the edge of the bed. Britney stood between her legs, hands on her face, and they were (expletive) going at it. Full-on making out,” he recounts. “Stunned,” he adds, saying he immediately started packing his suitcase.
That moment, he argues, marked a boundary violation. He says he wanted to fly home, but Spears apologized and “swore it wouldn’t happen again.”
Federline says he desired monogamy and sees that encounter as a turning point:
“I was looking for a monogamous relationship and set that boundary.”
He frames it as a collision between his expectations and the reality of his marriage. Ultimately, the two stayed together for a time—but not without scars. Their divorce in 2007 ended a tumultuous chapter that has continued to echo in public discourse.
Britney’s team pushed back immediately after the revelation. In a statement to PEOPLE, they accused Federline of using the memoir to profit off sensationalism.
“With news from Kevin’s book breaking, once again he and others are profiting off her…” they said. “All she cares about are her kids, Sean Preston and Jayden James, and their well-being during this sensationalism.”
Britney and Kevin share two sons—Sean Preston and Jayden James—now 20 and 19. During much of their childhood, they lived with Federline, though Britney remained a central figure in their lives after the end of her conservatorship in 2021.
Federline also told The New York Times that he’s never been “against Britney” personally. Instead, he says his memoir is part of his attempt to explain how each person in that era lost pieces of themselves.
“It’s hard because when I really reflect on everything that’s happened — my kids do not know the woman that I married … And I’ve spent two decades trying to bridge that gap.”
You Thought You Knew officially drops on Oct. 21. Whether it will settle old rumors or ignite new ones is anyone’s guess—but the personal stakes are high, and the narrative promises to be raw.
