Kim Petras is done playing nice — and she’s saying it loudly.

The 33-year-old Grammy-winning artist revealed in a series of posts on X that she has formally requested to be dropped by Republic Records, citing a prolonged lack of support and creative autonomy.

“My album has been done for 6 months but my record label has refused to give me a release date or pay my collaborator’s for the work they’ve done,” Kim wrote.

She went on to detail how deeply frustrating the situation has been, revealing that she personally financed a music video for her next single. “Oh ya I also filmed and self funded a music video over 2 months ago for my next single that they also wouldn’t give me a release date for. Best MV i’ve ever done btw… 9 looks 6 setups 13 pairs of shoes…”

The core issue, Kim says, is control — or the lack of it. “I’m tired of having no control over my own life or career. I want to continue to self fund and self curate my own music. This is why I have formally requested to be dropped by
@RepublicRecords.”

Despite winning a Grammy just two years ago, Kim says industry support has been nonexistent. “I won a grammy 2 years ago…….. the music is TEA. Still no support,” she wrote, adding pointedly, “If it’s not a tiktok trend or 80s revival queerbaiting s–t these labels have no interest in supporting.”

She closed with a message directly to fans: “My fans have waited long enough. I love u guys.”

“I’m dropping Detour regardless,” she concluded, referencing her reported third studio album, expected in 2026.

Kim signed with Republic Records in 2021, following the release of “Future Starts Now,” and released her second album Problématique in 2023. Since debuting with “I Don’t Want It At All” in 2017, she’s carved out a space defined by bold pop instincts and emotional honesty.

Recently, Kim spoke about “selling out” — and how frustration has fueled her new music. If these posts are any indication, Detour may be her most personal and defiant work yet.
