Mena Massoud is stepping back from Twitter.
The 31-year-old actor, who starred in Disney’s 2019 live action remake of Aladdin, deactivated his account on the social media platform early Saturday morning (May 13) following some serious backlash over a tweet he made about the upcoming The Little Mermaid.
Mena spoke about the live-action remake of The Little Mermaid in relation to his own live-action remake of Aladdin, tweeting:
“Our film was unique in that audiences went to watch it multiple times. It’s the only way we reached the billion dollar mark with or opening.
My guess it TLM doesn’t cross the billion mark but will undoubtedly get a sequel.”
Fans were clearly unhappy with his comments. Many responded to slam what he wrote, with some even calling him “bitter and racist” and expressing their disappointment in the actor.
Many hours later, Mena deactivated his account.
Some years ago, Mena claimed that after he starred in Aladdin, he did not get any auditions in Hollywood.
