North West is officially stepping into the spotlight — on her own terms.

On Friday (February 6), the 12-year-old eldest daughter of Kim Kardashian and Kanye West released her debut song, “Piercing On My Hand,” marking her first official solo music release.

The track is short, confident, and undeniably self-aware. North raps,

“Piercing on my hand, the other holdin’ bands / No friends, just fans, you wouldn’t understand,”

before adding,

“Shoppin’ in Japan, that’s where I always stand / Went to school for two days, then I got banned.”

The lyrics sparked instant conversation — equal parts playful bravado and commentary on growing up under constant scrutiny. Rather than shying away from her reality, North leans into it, delivering lines that feel cheeky, observational, and very much aware of the internet watching her every move.

Alongside the release, North posted a photo to Instagram showcasing the nearly dozen piercings on her hands — a visual that has become synonymous with her recent public appearances. The image doubled as both album art energy and a quiet statement of self-expression.

Back in November, North and Kim publicly responded to criticism surrounding the piercings after they first appeared online. While opinions were divided, both made it clear that North’s individuality and comfort were the priority.

Music isn’t new territory for North. She’s been involved in creative projects with her father for years, joining him on tracks and making surprise onstage appearances. Last year, she also delivered a Japanese-language verse on FKA twigs’ song “Childlike Things,” earning praise for her confidence and presence.

“Piercing On My Hand” doesn’t try to be polished pop or industry-ready perfection — and that’s the point. It feels like an introduction, not a declaration. A first step, not a final form.

Whether North continues down a musical path or simply enjoys experimenting creatively, one thing is clear: she’s already comfortable owning her voice. And at 12 years old, that might be her most powerful debut yet.

Check out the lyrics:

[Intro]
(ノースちゃん)

[Chorus]
Piercing on my hand, the other holdin’ bands
No friends, just fans, you wouldn’t understand
Shoppin’ in Japan, that’s where I always stand
Went to school for two days, then I got banned

[Verse]
Skippin’ school, yeah, I do that on the daily
Jaded London fits, someone’s gonna save me (Hahahaha)
Got some new Ricks, yeah, they are so crazy
All my songs are hits, you know I’m not lazy (North)
You are so angry that I’m so mainstream
Dissed her once, now she wanna replace me
You can never faze me, just erase me
Talkin’ a lot lately, I’m not your opp, crazy
I want more piercings and tats
I love blue hair, put it in some plaits
Put the music to the max
I want like a hundred thousand racks

[Chorus]
Piercing on my hand, the other holdin’ bands
No friends, just fans, you wouldn’t understand
Shoppin’ in Japan, that’s where I always stand
Went to school for two days, then I got banned
Piercing on my hand, the other holdin’ bands
No friends, just fans, you wouldn’t understand
Shoppin’ in Japan, that’s where I always stand
Went to school for two days, then I got banned
