A serious allegation involving two high-profile figures is drawing attention online—and quickly becoming a he-said, she-said situation playing out in public.
Actor Ruby Rose took to Threads this week to accuse Katy Perry of sexual assault, making the claim in response to a social media post about Perry’s reaction to Justin Bieber’s Coachella set. The comment was brief, but direct.
“Katy Perry sexual assaulted me at spice market nightclub in Melbourne. Who gives a shit what she thinks,” Rose wrote.
The allegation, which references an incident Rose says occurred years ago in Melbourne, prompted immediate reaction—and a swift denial from Perry’s camp. In a statement to Variety, a representative for Perry pushed back strongly on the claim.
“The allegations being circulated on social media by Ruby Rose about Katy Perry are not only categorically false, they are dangerous reckless lies. Ms. Rose has a well-documented history of making serious public allegations on social media against various individuals, claims that have repeatedly been denied by those named.”
Rose continued to expand on her account in follow-up responses to fans, offering graphic details about what she says took place when she was in her early twenties.
“She didn’t kiss me. She saw me ‘resting’ on my best friends lap to avoid her and bent down, pulled her underwear to the side and rubbed her disgusting vagina on my face until my eyes snapped open and I projectile vomited on her.”
In another reply, Rose reflected on why she had not spoken publicly in the same way before.
“After it I threw up on her, I told the story publicly but changed it to be a ‘funny little drunk story’ because I didn’t know how else to handle it,” Rose responded to another fan. “Later she agreed to help me get my US visa. So I kept it a secret. But I DID tell yall she wasn’t a good person. ”
Rose also addressed the timing of her statement, noting the length of time it took her to speak openly.
“I was only in my early 20s,” Rose alleged. “I’m now 40. It has taken almost 2 decades to say this publicly. Though I am so grateful to have made it long enough to find my voice, it just shows how much of an impact trauma and sexual assault takes. Thank you for seeing me.”
At the same time, she clarified that she does not intend to pursue legal action.
“She’s “not interested in filing a report” about the incident and explained: “You don’t need people to believe you, you just need to get it out of your poor body, before it gives you cancer.”
The timing of the allegation is notable. Perry had just attended Coachella with her partner, Justin Trudeau, where she shared a lighthearted social media post reacting to Justin Bieber’s headlining performance. That clip, which included her joking, “Thank god he has Premium. I don’t wanna see no ads,” became the backdrop for Rose’s initial comment.
