Ruby Rose is recovering after suffering a painful accident that landed her in hospital—and she isn’t sugar-coating just how miserable the recovery has been.
The actress and model took to social media this week to share surveillance footage of the moment she slipped and fell into her backyard pool, revealing that the accident left her with multiple broken ribs and brought an abrupt end to her summer plans.
The video, which Rose posted to her Instagram Stories early Tuesday, June 30, shows her walking along the edge of her swimming pool while holding a garden hose. Moments later, she suddenly loses her footing, crashing into a nearby wall and striking the edge of the pool before falling backwards into the water.
Adding a bit of humour to an otherwise painful situation, Rose paired the footage with the classic song “There She Goes” by The La’s.
After sharing the video, she updated fans on the aftermath of the accident.
“RIP to my ribs, and to the rest of my summer. They are broken, multiple,” Rose wrote alongside the clip, adding a laughing emoji. “Straight to hospital, did not pass go or collect 200 dollars.”
She later expanded on the experience in a post shared to Threads, explaining just how quickly the day took an unexpected turn.
“One second I’m here talking to you. The next I’m in the hopital [sic] with two broken ribs. What a bloody Monday.”
While trying to stay positive, Rose admitted that the injury has forced her to put everyday activities on hold as she begins what is expected to be a lengthy recovery.
The accident also prompted her to reflect on another physically demanding chapter of her career—her time starring as Kate Kane on Batwoman.
Looking back, Rose questioned how she managed to return to filming so quickly after suffering a much more serious on-set injury several years ago.
“My rib was killing me!! I couldnt feel my legs or hands, I was in a batsuit!” she wrote. “I’ve just broken two ribs, falling into my own pool backwards, 🤣 and you couldn’t pay me to put a bra on, let alone stand up. Send good book and show recommendations this is going to take many weeks.”
Her comments reference the severe neck injury she sustained while filming Batwoman, which required emergency surgery before she eventually returned to work.
Rose has previously spoken openly about that period, alleging that she was pressured to resume filming just 10 days after undergoing surgery despite still recovering.
Following her departure from the CW series in 2020, she accused production executives of creating what she described as an unsafe and hostile working environment.
At the time, Warner Bros. Television strongly disputed those claims.
In a lengthy statement responding to Rose’s allegations, the studio described her accusations as “defamatory and damaging” and characterised them as “revisionist history.”
The disagreement generated significant headlines at the time, with both sides offering sharply different accounts of Rose’s experience on the series.
