Camila Cabello really wants to know which hand an engagement ring goes on so nobody gets confused.
Fans have been buzzing about a giant sparkler spotted on Camila’s left ring finger. She was rocking it in some recent TikTok videos – like that time she shared her daily workout routine dancing to her latest single, “Don’t Go Yet.”
Camila and boyfriend Shawn Mendes just celebrated their two-year-anniversary last month, and the eye-catching ring is leading many to speculate whether Shawn has gone from boyfriend to fiancé.
When the “Havana” singer appeared on The Tonight Show on Thursday (August 26), host Jimmy Fallon asked the one question fans have been dying to know: “Did Shawn Mendes ask you to marry him?”
Her response? “He has not.”
“And I am not engaged,” Camila further clarified.
As for the bling she was wearing, “I just, I swear to God I don’t know what hand an engagement ring goes on, so sometimes I’ll just put [a ring] on my ring finger,” she explained.
“I’d actually like you to enlighten me. Which hand is the engagement hand?” Camila asked, adding, “Because I don’t know. My parents are married and they both lost their rings, so my mom couldn’t tell me either.”
Jimmy tried to answer her question, but his seeming hesitation kinda threw her off a little.
“It’s the left, right?” he said. “Yeah, I think it’s the left.”
“You don’t even know!” the singer exclaimed. “Is this common knowledge? You sound insecure about this.”
Jimmy assured her it’s common knowledge – and yes, it is the left. He even recalled an incident from a few years back that left his left hand bandaged for weeks.
“Well, I almost ripped my finger off with my wedding ring,” he shared, before jokingly adding, “So I just have a tattoo on my lower back…. it says ‘Taken.'”
Camila laughingly went along with it, quipping, “I have a tattoo of Shawn on my lower back too.”
At first, Jimmy thought they had the same tattoo until she added, “It says ‘Señor,’ and he has one on his lower back that says, ‘Señorita.”
While the loved-up couple aren’t engaged right now, Shawn has previously opened up about whether he and Camila have talked about taking their relationship to the next level.
“Absolutely,” he told Entertainment Tonight back in December. “I think for me it’s always been if I’m not willing to talk about that stuff then I kind of check out a little bit, and I don’t know, I really think when you know, you know.”
“She’s been one of my best friends since I was, like, 15 years old. At the same time, I know we are really young so I don’t want to jump, like, insanely fast,” he continued. “But I think when you find your person, you feel and you know that you have found your person.”
