Camila Cabello is getting candid about the power of social media.

In July, the “Havana” singer went on Tiktok with a powerful message about how “being at war with your body is so last season.”

“I was just running in the park, minding my own business trying to be fit, trying to keep it healthy,” she began in the video. “And I am wearing a top that shows my belly, and I wasn’t tucking it in.”

After panning the camera down to her stomach, she continues, “Because I was running and existing like a normal person that doesn’t tuck it in all the time. And I was like, ‘Damn.’”

“But then I reminded myself, being at war with your body is so last season,” she went on. “I am grateful for this body that lets me do what I need to do. We are real women with curves and cellulite and stretch marks and fat. And we gotta own that, baby.”

In a recent interview on the U.K. morning show Lorraine, Camila reflected on posting the video and how social media “can be a good thing.”

“For me, like posting about that video that I posted about my body and being like, ‘I have cellulite and stretch marks and gain weight sometimes and that’s normal’ — having messages like that feels really liberating,” she told host Ross King.

However, for her, it doesn’t have to be an everyday thing.

“Yesterday, I had a day off and I was just like, ‘I can’t be on social media today,” she said. “I just notice it just makes my brain go so fast and sometimes you just need to take a break.”

While there are pros and cons to being on social media – and there are celebrities who have opened up about its negative effects on mental health – Camila tries to use her platforms to make sure they reflect her true self as much possible.

“A lot of the times I feel and I’m sure a lot of people feel, especially like female pop stars or pop singers, that the narrative can be kind of written for you,” she shared.

“The thing I’m thankful for social media is that it lets me kind of take control of my own narrative and actually share who I am, as opposed to people telling other people who they think I am,” she said. “That definitely makes me feel better because the other thing is just really frustrating.”

Hopefully, her body positive messages can help inspire others – just like it did her boyfriend, Shawn Mendes.

“[She is] so strong, so clear and confident with her [body] and so articulate and empathetic about other people’s and it really changed my view of mine,” Shawn told British GQ in November.
