Sabrina Carpenter has caused quite the controversy in the religious world.

The 24-year-old singer dropped the music video for her song ‘Feather’ on Halloween. In the horror-themed video for her song, Sabrina kills and/or witnesses the deaths of men who have treated her badly – men who catcalled her and took upskirt photos without her consent. Later on in the video, she dances around the church in celebration for the mens’ funerals.

Well, the visuals did not go over well for the Catholic community.

A Catholic bishop released a statement that denounced the filming of part of the video in the outside of a church in Williamsburg, Brooklyn.

Later on, it was revealed that a catholic priest was stripped of his administrative duties because of the “Feather” music video.

Two delays after the video was released, the Diocese of Brooklyn shared a statement with the Catholic News Agency. In he statement, he said that Bishop Robert Brennan was “appalled at what was filmed at Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church in Brooklyn.”

It was claimed by the Diocese that the Blessed Virgin Mary Church did not follow the protocol in place to approve what gets filmed on the property. He added that is was Monsignor Jamie J. Gigantiello who gave permission. The statement said:

“The parish did not follow diocesan policy regarding the filming on Church property, which includes a review of the scenes and script.”

The pastor apologized in a post, saying that hi sonline research about the artist “did not reveal anything questionable.” Because of this, he approved the video in an “effort to further strengthen the bonds between the young creative artists who make up a large part of this community.”

He went on to say that the final version of the visual was “not what was initially presented to me.”

According to the church in Brooklyn, “a more thorough investigation will be made into the approval process in the coming weeks.”
