Dwayne Johnson is candidly speaking about the DC film universe’s future after Henry Cavill was taken out of the picture as Superman.

In case you missed it, the Man of Steel star suited up once more for the first time since 2017 to make an appearance in Dwayne’s Black Adam last year. Henry’s cameo was heavily believed to be leading into a new Superman movie starring Henry.

Not long after, new studio directors James Gunn and Peter Safran dropped major changes to the lineup — effectively bringing to an end Henry’s run in the franchise.

While on the red carpet at the 2023 Academy Awards, Dwayne spoke about the changes until James’ helm. Speaking to Variety on the red carpet, he made an apt metaphor to explain how they tried to set things up to move forward smoothly but that their plans just did not work out:

“It’s almost like when you have a pro football team and your quarterback wins championships and your head coach wins championships and then a new owner comes in and says, ‘Not my coach, not my quarterback. I’m going to go with somebody new.”

Dwayne added that Black Adam was well received by audiences despite receiving less than Stellas reception elsewhere:

“Our audience score was in the 90s. Critics took a couple shots, but that’s just the business of it.”
