The Weeknd dropped the music video for “Save Your Tears” on Tuesday (January 5) and fans can’t stop talking about it.

First off, remember how he’s been rocking that bandaged look all year last year for his After Hours era? Well, he finally revealed what’s underneath – and shocked fans with the major transformation: His face has been made up with dramatic facial prosthetics that made him look completely unrecognizable – all obviously fake though.

Some also noted that one particular scene might be a diss at the GRAMMYs – when he stood onstage holding up a large gold trophy before throwing it into the wings.

“Abel said ‘f–k the Grammys,'” one fan wrote on Twitter.
“I think [he] is showing us how constantly pressured he feels to be ‘perfect’ by the industry, Grammys, etc.” another tweeted. “Now he got that botched up face and I think at some point he will have an alone again mv where he takes it off and learns to love himself for who he is.”

But what’s got fans really buzzing is the female model in the music video – many think she looks like The Weeknd’s ex-girlfriend, Selena Gomez, whom he dated in 2017.

“How is no one talking about how the girl looks so much like Selena G,” one YouTube follower commented, “Like this song is about her if you actually listen and the video confirms it.”

“She looks like Selena Gomez,” someone else wrote.

Others also noted how some of the style choices in the model’s styling seems to be a nod at Selena’s looks in past projects.

“The girl has a similar hair style and earrings as Selena in her music video ‘Dance Again,'” one follower wrote.

“The girl looks like Selena in ‘Dance Again’ music video. This song is for Selena,” another person commented.

The Weeknd and Selena dated for 10 months in 2017. Both artists dropped albums in 2020, which has fans wondering which songs contain references to their past romance. Even before the MV for “Save Your Tears,” fans have actually been speculating that the song was inspired by Selena.
