Met Gala Monday (September 13) saw some iconic fashion moments on the red carpet (which was actually beige) outside the Metropolitan Museum Of Art Costume Institute and brought out some of our favorite celeb power couples for a high-fashion date night – among them Justin and Hailey Bieber, who were celebrating their third wedding anniversary AND Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello, who were featured in one of Vogue’s “Get Ready” videos.
Here’s where it gets juicy: Apparently, the two couples bumped into each other at the hotel before they each headed out to make their respective grand entrances on the Met steps – and it was all caught on camera, which can be seen in Vogue’s “Camila Cabello and Shawn Mendes Get Ready For The Met Gala.”
This is what went down when they bumped into each other at the hotel lobby in the video:
When Camila sees the Biebers, she smiles and waves. She then walks over, hugging Hailey then Justin.
Camila: (to Hailey) “Hi, how are you? Good to see you!”; (to Justin) “How are you? Great performance last night. Killed.”
Shawn joins them, and hugging Hailey and Justin in greeting.
Shawn: “Hey, bro. How are you?”
Justin: “Really good.”
Shawn: “Yeah?”
Justin: “Yes, sir.”
Shawn: “Feeling good? You look good.”
Justin: “Going with the no shirt vibes. I like it.”
Shawn: “Just trying to push it a little bit.”
Justin: “Gotta flex. Gotta flex.”
Camila: (laughing) Literally.
Offscreen, a woman from the Bieber’s team cuts off their conversation.
Woman: All right Hailey, I think they’re ready.
Justin: (to Shawn and Camila) We’ll see you guys. Love you so much.
They exchange their goodbyes and the Biebers walk out to their transpo. Shawn and Camila later head out as well.
Fans will recall that Shawn and Hailey sort of have a history – they were rumored to have (briefly) dated and even famously attended the Met Gala together in 2018. That all happened just months before she and Justin tied the knot; meanwhile then-longtime friends Shawn and Camila crossed over to couple territory in 2019. It’s important to note though that both Shawn and Hailey have always maintained that they were “just friends.”
Fans have gone on TikTok to share their feelings about the interaction.
“the tension here is just too much,” one person wrote.
Another talked about feeling awkward “just thinking about their past.”
Others disagreed, with a fan saying, “If this is awkward thank god no one films my interactions.”
“Honestly this is every 20 something year old interaction,” another fan commented.
Fans also thought Justin telling Shawmila “Love you so much” was “the cutest”, with another commenting how Shawn and Camila were “so sweet and polite” during the whole exchange.
Plus, in the comments section of the YouTube video, a fan also wrote, “there is literally 0 bad blood. theyre all so mature,” while another thought they “looked so happy together.”
Fans can relax as there is very likely no beef at all. As a reminder, Justin and Shawn have actually already collaborated on a song. Remember “Monster,” which dropped in November last year? And before that, the two have been caught on camera jamming together with Tori Kelly.
