Here’s Why Lorde Won’t Be Performing At The 2021 MTV VMAs

The MTV Video Music Awards is set to take place this weekend, but one of its originally announced performers will no longer be taking the stage.

On Friday (September 3), the award show’s official Twitter account that Lorde, who was expected to perform a song from her latest album, will no longer be taking the stage.

“Due to a change in production elements, Lorde can no longer perform at this year’s show,” the tweet read. “We love Lorde and cannot wait for her to perform on the VMA stage in the future! 💛.”

Lorde dropped her third studio album, Solar Power, last month – and the title track and the MV’s cinematographer, Andrew Stroud, are up for Best Cinematography in the awards show.

The last time Lorde performed on the VMAs stage was back in 2017 – but she had the flu at the time, and ended up doing an interpretative danced along to her song “Homemade Dynamite” instead of singing.

The MTV VMAs are set to take place on Saturday (September 12). Other previously announced lineup of performers include Justin Bieber, Shawn Mendes, Doja Cat, Camila Cabello, Lil Nas X, Lorde, Machine Gun Kelly, Olivia Rodrigo and more.
