Kevin Bacon knows we’re all just six degrees away from him, and he’s taking advantage of that to encourage social distancing.
The actor recently went on social media to kick off a new kind of challenge – one that doesn’t involve complicated dance moves or physical prowess, just some sweet sentiments – called the #IStayHomeFor Challenge.
“I’m technically only six degrees away from you,” the actor said in his video. “Everyone of us has someone wroth staying home for and I am staying home for [my wife] Kyra Sedgwick,” he continued, holding up a board written with “#IStayHomeFor Kyra Sedgewick.”
He then announced a new challenge to reveal why you’re staying home and tagging six other people to get them to do the same. “We can work together to stay home and keep each other safe and spread the word,” he concluded.
“Hey everybody, it’s now so important to stay home and keep our distance from others if you are able. It’s one way we can help prevent the spread of #Coronavirus and save lives. The more of us who can, make it safer for those who can’t. So if you’re home too like me, post a video or photo with a sign like mine, telling who you are staying home for and ask 6 friends to do the same,” he wrote on Instagram, adding “the more folks involved, the merrier.”
He also tagged some of his famous friends to join the challenge.
A number of celebrities have since responded.
Demi Lovato shared that she was staying home for her parents, her neighbors and her health.
“There’s a lot of things going on in our world right now, but if there’s one thing that matters it’s spreading love,” she captioned her post.
David Beckham says he stays home for his wife, Victoria Beckham, and their four kids – Brooklyn. Romeo, Cruz and Harper.
“Staying at home for the ones that we love 🏠,” he wrote, in part, on Instagram. “Let’s stop the coronavirus spread together ♥️”
Millie Bobby Brown revealed her reasons for staying home are her family, her nan (grandmother), as well as other vulnerable and elderly people.
“im staying at home for these people because they are my everything♡,” she shared, explaining, “my beautiful nan, she protected me my whole life. now its time for me to protect her.”
Elle Fanning also stays home for her grandmother.
“Healthy carriers could be endangering or even causing the deaths of the most vulnerable: people 65 and up and people with underlying conditions,” she wrote. “#IStayHomeFor my grandmother, Mary Jane.”
She also gave a shoutout to the people on the frontlines. “Thank you to all the COURAGEOUS healthcare workers, grocery store clerks, takeout/delivery employees, mail and package handlers and many others on the frontlines risking their safety and having to spend time away from their loved ones to protect our community. ❤️ You are our heros. [sic]”
Eva Longoria shared that her reasons to stay home are her son Santi and husband Pepe.
“It’s the least we can do to help STOP the spread of this virus. I stay home because it is such an easy sacrifice to make for my fellow neighbors. For the country. For the WORLD,” she wrote.
Elton John likewise stays home for his family – hubby David Furnish and their 2 sons, Zachary and Elijah.
“Today it’s snakes, ladders and staying inside to stop the spread of coronavirus,” he captioned his photo.
