The 2025 Emmy Awards took center stage on Sunday, celebrating the year’s best in television with some surprising victories and historic milestones. Among the night’s biggest winners were Adolescence, The Studio, The Pitt, and The Late Show With Stephen Colbert, all of which took home multiple awards.
Adolescence dominated with six wins, including best limited or anthology series. Owen Cooper became the youngest-ever male winner in any acting category, claiming supporting actor in a limited or anthology series or movie. Executive producer, writer, and star Stephen Graham won best actor in a limited or anthology series or movie, while Erin Doherty earned best supporting actress. Philip Barantini was honored with best directing for a limited or anthology series or movie, and Graham shared a third Emmy with Jack Thorne for best writing.
Comedy powerhouse The Studio also had a stellar night, scoring four Emmys. Seth Rogen won best actor and shared best writing honors alongside Evan Goldberg, Peter Huyck, Alex Gregory, and Frida Perez. Rogen and Goldberg also took home best directing, while the series itself won best comedy series.
Drama fans celebrated The Pitt, which took home three Emmys, including best drama series. Star Noah Wyle earned best actor in a drama series. In a surprise win, Katherine LaNasa took home best supporting actress, beating four stars from The White Lotus. Another unexpected victory saw Jeff Hiller win best supporting actor in a comedy series for Somebody Somewhere, surpassing nominees like Harrison Ford, who was nominated for his first Emmy.
The Late Show With Stephen Colbert claimed best talk series, a bittersweet triumph just two months after CBS announced the show’s cancellation. Colbert and his team received a standing ovation, with fans chanting “Stephen! Stephen!” as they accepted the award.
Historic milestones marked the night as well. Tramell Tillman became the first Black man to win best supporting actor in a drama series for Severance. His co-star Britt Lower won best actress in a drama series. Meanwhile, Jean Smart took home best actress in a comedy for Hacks, and Hannah Einbinder won best supporting actress in the same show. Cristin Milioti was named best actress in a limited or anthology series or movie for The Penguin.
Reality and variety series were recognized too. The Traitors won best reality competition program, while Last Week Tonight With John Oliver claimed best writing for a variety series and best scripted variety series, besting Saturday Night Live in both categories. However, SNL50: The Anniversary Special won best variety special (live), giving Lorne Michaels a personal haul of 22 Emmys and the show a total of 112 wins.
In drama and writing categories, Adam Randall won best directing for Slow Horses, and Dan Gilroy earned best writing for Andor.
The 77th Emmys, hosted by Nate Bargatze, aired live across the country from the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles. The ceremony also streamed live and on-demand via Paramount+. Red carpet arrivals featured some of the year’s most stylish stars, including Stephen Colbert, Jeff Probst, and Sydney Sweeney. Presenters included iconic duos: Lauren Graham and Alexis Bledel (Gilmore Girls) and Jenna Ortega with Catherine Zeta-Jones (Wednesday). A Law & Order cast reunion added extra excitement.
The ceremony also honored those lost with an In Memoriam segment, opened by Phylicia Rashad paying tribute to the late Malcolm-Jamal Warner. Ted Danson and Mary Steenburgen accepted the Bob Hope Humanitarian Award, and the event raised $350,000 for the Boys and Girls Club. Prior to the main show, most awards were presented at the Creative Arts Emmy Awards on September 6 and 7.
The 2025 Emmys celebrated talent, history-making moments, and the ever-evolving art of television.
