Barbara Palvin is letting fans in on a deeply personal health journey.
The 31-year-old model returned to Instagram on Sunday (August 17) after a noticeable absence since June, and she chose to use her first post back to explain where she’s been — and why the past few months have been life-changing.
Barbara revealed that she was recently diagnosed with endometriosis, a painful condition in which tissue similar to the uterine lining grows outside the uterus. According to the World Health Organization, it often causes severe pain, fatigue, and can even lead to fertility challenges.
“Hi guys, it’s been a while! Just a little update and a few thoughts for those out there who could relate to what I’m about to share – for some years now I’ve been dealing with the difficulties that can come with my periods. Fatigue, severe pain, heavy and irregular flow, sleepless nights on the bathroom floor. I thought this was just how it works for me,” Barbara wrote in her post.
It wasn’t until recently that she was encouraged to see a specialist and dig deeper into the symptoms she’d been living with.
“But recently I’ve been advised to seek out an endometriosis specialist to see whether my symptoms are caused by that. I’ve been going to checkups to my gynecologist every year, I thought if I had endometriosis I would have known about it by now, but as it turns out, endometriosis can’t be diagnosed with general examinations,” she explained.
That new perspective led her to surgery. “So I went, and 3 months later I got operated on. Since then I finally experienced a period that was easier, and now I know the difference. If you suspect that you could have endometriosis I encourage you to find it out. It helped me a lot, and I’m grateful I did it. Early diagnosis and treatment are very important to prevent long-term complications, and now I’m more mindful about my body to act fast if needed.”
Barbara wrapped up her message with gratitude and a sense of renewal: “That’s also why I took the past 3 months to rest and fully heal. I’m excited about this new chapter of my life and now ready to get back to work 🙆🏼♀️”
Her candidness resonated immediately with fans, many of whom praised her openness for breaking the silence around women’s health issues that are often overlooked or dismissed. Endometriosis affects an estimated 1 in 10 women globally, yet it can take years to receive a proper diagnosis. Barbara’s honesty is not just a personal revelation — it’s an encouragement for others to listen to their bodies, push for answers, and prioritize health.
