Bebe Rexha is laughing about a memorable night out — and how it turned into music.
During a recent appearance on Page Six Radio, the 36-year-old Grammy nominee recalled an evening in Tokyo that took an unexpected turn. The night eventually inspired her song “Tokyo,” which will appear on her upcoming album Dirty Blonde.
The story began the day after Halloween.
“I was in Tokyo the day after Halloween, and I was like, ‘I want to go out,’ because I love Halloween,” she told Page Six Radio. “And I went out to this nightclub, and there was a table below, we were right behind the DJ booth.”
From there, things escalated quickly.
“There was another table with all these guys and these hot girls, and this one Japanese girl came up, and we were dancing, grinding on each other. And then she just starts making out with me.”
The spontaneous moment didn’t stay in Tokyo. It made its way into her music.
Her track “Tokyo” includes the lyric, “I kissed a girl in Tokyo,” a direct nod to the encounter. Reflecting on the night, Rexha said they had “the best night ever” and that the experience inspired her to “write a song about it.”
At the end, she admitted the girl was a fan and wondered if that was “weird.”
Naturally, that led to the follow-up question: would she ever date a fan?
“I don’t want to say no because you never know,” Bebe replied.
