Beyoncé had one more surprise in store for fans this Fourth of July weekend.
Without much warning, the global superstar marked the beginning of the holiday by releasing a brand-new track titled “Morning Dew (Donk),” giving the BeyHive its first new music in two years while kicking off the celebration of one of the most beloved albums in her catalog.
The song arrived on Saturday, July 4, as part of the newly expanded 20th Anniversary Edition of B’Day, the landmark album that helped cement Beyoncé’s status as one of pop music’s defining artists after launching her solo career.
The release also signals the start of what Beyoncé is calling a 60-day countdown leading up to her birthday on September 4, giving fans another reason to celebrate throughout the summer.
Although the surprise single immediately became the headline, the anniversary edition serves as a tribute to an album that remains one of the most important releases of Beyoncé’s career.
Originally released in 2006, B’Day arrived during a pivotal moment for the singer, showcasing a fearless blend of R&B, pop, funk and soul while producing several of her signature hits. “Morning Dew (Donk)” reunites Beyoncé with several longtime collaborators.
The track was written by Beyoncé, Pharrell Williams, The-Dream and Darius Dixon, while production was handled by Beyoncé herself alongside Pharrell Williams.
The collaboration brings together creative partners who have helped shape some of her most memorable work over the years, and fans quickly embraced hearing them reunite on a brand-new release.
Alongside the song, Beyoncé also premiered a lyric video that offers a nostalgic look back at an earlier chapter of her career.
Directed by longtime collaborator Cliff Watts, the visual incorporates archival footage that longtime fans may immediately recognize. Watts famously photographed Beyoncé for her iconic Sports Illustrated Swimsuit cover around the time she was approaching her 25th birthday, making the video a fitting companion to an anniversary project rooted in reflection.
The release marks Beyoncé’s first original song since 2024’s Cowboy Carter, which earned widespread acclaim and continued the ambitious musical trilogy she began with 2022’s Renaissance.
