Blac Chyna is speaking candidly about why she and Derrick Milano decided to part ways before making it down the aisle.
The former couple’s love story began in 2023, and things seemed to be going strong when Derrick, 31, proposed to Chyna, 37, in October 2024. But just months later, in July 2025, Chyna took to social media to reveal that their engagement — and relationship — had come to an end.
Now, in a new interview with Entertainment Tonight, Chyna is pulling back the curtain on why they chose to go their separate ways.
“First of all, it was mutual, and I feel sometimes in life people try to hold on to certain things but, I’m going in a different direction than Derrick — like we’re both doing our own things,” Chyna explained. “I feel like I just really need to focus on myself, my kids and my spirituality.”
While the breakup may have been unexpected for fans, Chyna stressed that there’s no drama between them. “Nothing happened. Nobody cheated,” she said. “It was like an ongoing thing — growing in different directions for sure.”
Instead of letting their relationship turn sour, Chyna says they chose to end things on a positive note. “I feel like it’s really healthy, too. Sometimes people stay in relationships too long,” she continued. “Then that’s toxic and then you start to grow this hatred towards the next person when it shouldn’t be that way.”
The reality star-turned-entrepreneur emphasized that she and Derrick’s friendship was the foundation of their relationship — and that hasn’t changed. “It’s a very healthy breakup,” she added, noting that they still follow each other on Instagram and check in from time to time.
Chyna says that their ability to maintain a friendship post-breakup comes from having been friends before romance entered the picture. She’s hopeful their connection will remain solid even as they focus on their individual paths.
Ultimately, she sees the split as an act of self-care — a way to prioritize her personal growth and family. For Chyna, that means continuing her journey of self-discovery, raising her children, and staying committed to her spiritual practices.
While the engagement may be over, she’s making it clear: this is one breakup that’s all about mutual respect, not heartache.
