Just one week after quietly making things official in London, newlyweds Dua Lipa and Callum Turner turned up the volume on their wedding celebrations with an extravagant three-day event in Sicily that has already earned a reputation as one of the most talked-about celebrity weddings of the year.

The couple reportedly exchanged vows for a second time on June 6 during a lavish ceremony in Palermo, following their intimate civil wedding at London’s Old Marylebone Town Hall on May 31. While their London ceremony was attended only by close family and friends, Sicily offered an entirely different atmosphere: glamorous, cinematic, and unapologetically grand.

Set against the breathtaking backdrop of Palermo’s historic architecture, aristocratic estates, and sparkling Mediterranean coastline, the celebration transformed the Sicilian capital into a gathering place for some of the biggest names in music, fashion, and entertainment. Industry insiders reportedly described the event as “the wedding of the year,” with one observer even comparing its cultural significance to the iconic wedding sequence from The Godfather.

The centerpiece of the festivities was Villa Valguarnera, an 18th-century Baroque estate often nicknamed “Little Versailles.” The historic residence, surrounded by expansive gardens overlooking the sea, has long been a favorite filming location and has welcomed everyone from celebrated writers to cinematic legends over the centuries. The venue’s timeless elegance provided a fitting setting for one of pop culture’s most high-profile couples.

According to reports, Lipa and Turner exchanged vows beneath a gazebo on the estate’s grounds while legendary musician Elton John performed his classic hit “Your Song” accompanied by piano. Guests were then treated to an elaborate Sicilian banquet curated by Michelin-recognized chef Tony Lo Coco, featuring regional favorites including anelletti alla Norma, panelle, and crocché before ending with beloved local desserts such as cannoli and cassata.

As the evening progressed, the celebration shifted from elegant ceremony to all-night dance party. International electronic music stars including David Guetta, Martin Garrix, Carl Cox, and Peggy Gou reportedly took over the soundtrack for the evening, keeping guests on the dance floor well into the night.

Privacy remained a top priority throughout the weekend. Extensive security measures included anti-drone technology, confidentiality agreements for staff and vendors, and strict restrictions on photography and videography. Reports even suggested that guests’ phones were covered with privacy stickers during some portions of the festivities.

The guest list reflected the couple’s impressive circle of friends. Among the approximately 200 attendees were fashion icon Donatella Versace, Charli XCX and husband George Daniel, Kevin Parker, actor Joe Alwyn, producer Mark Ronson and actress Grace Gummer, singer Olivia Dean, along with Lipa’s family, including her father Dukagjin and sister Rina.

The celebrations actually began a day earlier with a pair of exclusive events in Palermo’s historic center. Guests enjoyed a private gathering at the city’s Gallery of Modern Art before moving to the opulent Palazzo Gangi for a lavish reception. One particularly meaningful decorative detail captured attendees’ attention: an enormous bookcase filled with real books. The installation served as a tribute to the couple’s early connection, inspired by the discovery that they were both reading the novel Trust by Hernán Díaz when they first met. At the time, Turner famously joked that they were already “on the same page.”

Not everyone in Palermo welcomed the celebrity takeover. Several historic streets and public squares were temporarily closed during the festivities, prompting some local criticism. Posters appeared around the city reading “The city is not for rent” and “Our square is not your living room,” highlighting tensions between residents and the large-scale private event.

Throughout the weekend, Lipa, Turner, and many of their guests stayed at Palermo’s luxurious Grand Hotel Villa Igiea, while others were accommodated at nearby luxury properties and aboard the superyacht Nympheas anchored in the harbor.

The Sicilian celebration marked the culmination of a love story that first became public in early 2024 when the pair were spotted together following the premiere of Masters of the Air. Since then, the couple has largely kept their relationship out of the spotlight, sharing only occasional glimpses of their romance. Their dual wedding celebrations—one intimate and one spectacular—managed to strike the same balance, blending personal moments with an unforgettable display of glamour.

For a couple known for guarding their privacy, their Sicilian wedding delivered exactly what fans might expect from two of Britain’s biggest stars: romance, elegance, and just enough mystery to keep the world talking.
