In what easily stands as one of the most heartwarming pop-culture crossovers of the year, childhood best friends Selena Gomez and Demi Lovato have officially reunited. Eighteen years after they first captured the internet’s heart with their candid bedroom YouTube vlogs, the two 33-year-old powerhouses teamed up for a special video collaboration celebrating Gomez’s cosmetics empire, Rare Beauty.
The reunion arrived alongside the launch of the limited-edition Delena Soft Pinch Blush Bundle, pairing two of the brand’s most coveted liquid blush shades: “Hope” (a nude mauve worn by Gomez) and “Virtue” (a beige peach worn by Lovato), accompanied by a signature application brush.
“YO YO YO,” Rare Beauty posted across social media, utilizing the iconic slang greeting instantly recognized by veteran fans. “18 years later, Delena is back with a vlog, and yes, they’re still making each other (and us!) blush.”
The bond between Gomez and Lovato runs deep into Hollywood history. First crossing paths as children on the set of Barney & Friends, the duo navigated parallel rises to global stardom on the Disney Channel—Gomez leading Wizards of Waverly Place while Lovato headlined Camp Rock and Sonny with a Chance. In 2008, their informal webcam videos became viral sensation prototypes, culminating in their co-starring turn in the 2009 Disney Channel original movie Princess Protection Program.
Speaking with ELLE following the campaign drop, Lovato reflected warmly on how their adult friendship has matured through various life chapters:
“Selena is someone that I’ve always loved and adored,” Lovato shared. “It’s really great to be in a place today where we can collaborate on things, but also just hang out and spend time together.”
Lovato revealed that the Rare Beauty collaboration bloomed organically after Gomez attended the opening night of Lovato’s It’s Not That Deep Tour in Orlando, Florida, back in April, connecting backstage like no time had passed. Lovato even confessed to recently rewatching their teenage YouTube clips alongside her husband, musician Jordan “Jutes” Lutes:
“But they were iconic,” Lovato admitted with a laugh regarding their early internet days.
From practicing red-carpet poses in living rooms as teenagers to building industry empires as mature women, Gomez and Lovato’s nostalgic return proves that genuine childhood connections never truly lose their shine.
